Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

With 6 weeks still remaining of the school year there is still so much ahead. In the Middle Years we are completing our end of year PAT testing to help determine learning levels for our students. We are soon to begin our end of year exam program, which not only shows their learning but helps train them for the senior exams they will have in the coming years. If your child needs any additional supports during this period please reach out to their tutor teacher.

We have much to celebrate before the end of year and  look forward to awards assemblies and our formal afternoon. Students will also be involved in exciting extra-curricula activities as the term draws to a close with year level free excursions to the Werribee Zoo (make sure you sign permission forms on Compass), and for those that got in earlier there are the Adventure Park and Lara Pool excursions. There may still be some availability for Adventure Park, contact the school for details.

Middle years students were excited to see air conditioning go into the Deakin and Latrobe buildings (where the majority of their classes are), we are sure this will be greatly appreciated.

In some very sad news we recently lost a core member of our well being team. Sandy Pine was a well respected and cherished part of our school community. Her passing has impacted us greatly and our thoughts are with her family and friends. Any students requiring extra support during this very sad time are encouraged to speak to someone at the Middle Years office or Student Services.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

Term 4 has been an exciting and eventful time for our Year 8 students, filled with hands-on learning, fun experiences, and exciting opportunities to prepare for the year ahead.

Science Incursion – Sparks, Robots, and Rocket Fuel!

Our students were treated to an amazing Science incursion that blended creativity with cutting-edge technology. One of the major highlights was the robot dog performance, which impressed everyone with its agility and futuristic movements. Students also got to witness a thrilling rocket fuel demonstration, learning about chemical reactions, propulsion, and the power of science in action. To top it off, they received valuable career advice about employment opportunities in the Defence Force, inspiring many to think about future pathways in STEM and national service. Thankyou Ms. Siragusano for helping organise this.

Alcohol Awareness Incursion – “Gibber” Performance

Earlier this term, students enjoyed an engaging and educational Alcohol Awareness incursion presented by the talented performance group Gibber. Their show was a perfect mix of drama, information, and comedy, helping students understand the real-life consequences of alcohol use while keeping the audience entertained from start to finish. It was a memorable and thought-provoking experience that sparked great discussions in class afterwards.

In Memory of Sandy Pine

This term, our school community was deeply saddened by the passing of our much-loved Sandy Pine, Wellbeing staff member. Sandy was a compassionate, dedicated, and inspiring member of our college who supported so many students and staff over the years. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering care made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a pillar of strength and warmth within the Wyndham Central College community.

Welcome Back, Mr. Slater

We would also like to extend a warm welcome back to Mr. Ewan Slater, our Year Level Leader, who recently returned from Scotland after farewelling the passing of his mother. Our thoughts have been with Mr. Slater and his family during this difficult time, and we are grateful to have him back with us supporting our Year 8 students as we head into the end of the year.

Looking Forward To...

As we approach the end of the school year, there’s still plenty for our Year 8 students to look forward to.

  • Zoo Excursion – A chance to connect with nature and learn more about wildlife conservation.
  • Stand-Up Paddle Boarding – A fun and active outdoor experience to build confidence and teamwork.
  • Adventure Park Geelong – A well-deserved day of excitement and celebration to wrap up the year.
  • “Food Fight” Incursion – A fun way to let of steam and build relationships with our students (the food is fake). Students of course will need to bring a change of clothes.
  • Finally, we are preparing for Step Up Interviews on December 1st and 2nd, followed by the Step Up Program from December 3rd to 16th, where our Year 8 students will officially become Year 9 students. This is an exciting step forward as they begin to explore new subjects, take on more responsibility, and continue their learning journey at Wyndham Central College.

A big thankyou to Ms. Sandlant who works hard to organise these events.

What a fantastic way to finish the year! Congratulations to all our Year 8 students for their enthusiasm, effort, and achievements throughout 2025.

As always we look forward to supporting our students in all that they do.

Best wishes, on behalf the year 8 team,

Year Level Leader's Report Year 9

It’s been an exciting few weeks for our Year 9 students!

This week, students participated in mock job interviews, putting their communication skills and confidence to the test. Each student prepared a résumé and practiced real-world interview techniques with community volunteers, organised with our community — a valuable step in getting ready for future employment opportunities. Students presented themselves exceptionally well and represented the college in such a respectful and polite manner. They should be very proud.

Meanwhile, 9E enjoyed a day at the beach, learning essential water safety skills and surf awareness. Students had a fantastic time while developing practical knowledge about staying safe and confident around water. All students that participated enjoyed themselves and learned valuable skills.

Our Tutor Challenge started hot and fast this term. 9A and 9C were out to a quick lead at 6 a-piece. With two assemblies left before Step Up, it’s anyone’s game to be crowned our final Tutor Challenge Champions. I wonder who will take out the final challenge?

The Art and Technology Exhibition was a wonderful display and celebration of our student’s work. It showcases the artwork and projects completed in our electives, including our new student voice electives. Well done to all students for their hard work this year and congratulations to those who were presented awards on the evening.

Can you believe it’s only two weeks until our wonderful Year 9's transition from Middle School into Senior School. I wish the Year 9's well as they move into Senior School and begin their final year before VCE and further career pathways.

A reminder that full attendance at the Step-Up program is required of all students.

It has been a pleasure to lead this cohort and watch as they have grown and changed over the last 12 months.
