Year Two

Spotlight on Learning

Damascus Community

Dear Families,

Week Five already! It's been a short but productive week at school! Students have been busy completing a range of assessments to show what they’ve learned and to help us plan for the term ahead and begin reports. We’re proud of the effort and focus they’ve shown, even with the shorter week.

Friendly Reminder:  Please ensure your child is in the correct school uniform and has their name on items that come off and on during the day. This includes jumpers and jackets. We have a lot of lost property at school to check if needed.

Christmas Carols: Below is the song we will be performing. If you could practise at home, that would be great!

This week we learnt about:

Religious Education: We are learning about Socktober Mission.

Socktober is a Catholic Mission initiative that uses soccer to engage students in fundraising and action against global poverty. The program teaches values like teamwork and community spirit, raises awareness of global poverty, and helps fund programs that support children in need. Students can raise money through sponsorships for activities like kicking a soccer ball, with funds often directed to programs that provide safe homes, food, and education for children in other countries.

Mathematics: In Maths, we are continuing to learn about number patterns. Students have been identifying and creating patterns that are increasing and decreasing, and explaining the rules that make the patterns work. They are developing their understanding of how numbers change and learning to predict what comes next in a sequence.

English: In English, we have been exploring a non-fiction book about lions. Students have been learning how to find and record interesting facts from the text. They then used these facts to write complete sentences, showing their understanding and practising how to share information clearly.

Auslan: We are doing unit 8 in Auslan which looks at different zoo animals.

Social & Emotional Learning: This week we are revising positive relationships and gender norms. We are completing a post assessment for these topics and get to try out a Kahoot!
