New Social Media Regulations: What you need to know

Dear Families,

From 10 December 2025, the Australian Government will introduce new laws to help protect young people online by limiting access to social media for those under 16 years of age. This change reflects growing community concern about how social media can affect children’s wellbeing, including their confidence, sleep, and relationships.

These new laws aim to make the online world safer and more balanced. Social media companies will now have a greater responsibility to check users’ ages and reduce harmful content. For many families, this will be a welcome change that supports children’s healthy growth and development.

At St Thomas the Apostle, we know that families play the most important role in helping children make good choices online. While these new rules will help, nothing replaces the care, guidance and conversations that happen at home. This is a good time for families to talk about technology use, set healthy limits, and help children understand how to use digital spaces safely and respectfully.

Together, we can help our children stay safe, balanced and confident as they learn to live well in both the online and real worlds.

☕ Upcoming Coffee & Connect:

Sharing Journeys, Building Community

We’re excited to invite parents and carers to our next Coffee and Connect morning — a relaxed and welcoming space to enjoy a cuppa, chat, and connect with others in our school community. These gatherings are all about sharing experiences, offering support, and taking a moment to pause together.

At our upcoming session, one of our staff members will be joining us to share her journey of raising a child with additional needs. She will speak openly about the challenges, the learning, and the moments of joy that have shaped her family’s story. Her experience offers a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the importance of community support.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to listen, reflect, and connect with other parents who understand the many ups and downs of family life. Whether you’re new to the school or a familiar face, all parents and carers are warmly welcome.
