Year Six
Spotlight on Learning
Bethlehem Community
Dear Families,
It's been lovely to see everyone arrive back from their long weekend relaxed and full of stories of how they enjoyed the sunshine and what they did or didn't get up to! This week we have only had two days of learning as today the grade 6 students participated in interschool sports. We hope to have photos for you next week.
Next week on Monday, past students of STAPS who have gone to St Peter's will come and give advice to our students. Then on Tuesday we will take part in a whole school Remembrance Day prayer service.
Congratulations to our Year 6 Winners of the Christmas Card Design Competition: Ashley, Sana, Simon and Meryl.

OUR LEARNING:
Religious Education:

This week began putting into action their ideas to work together to design and present a fundraiser that supports the people of Myanmar and demonstrates the values of Catholic Social Teaching. Students will continue working on their fundraiser over the next week before presentations begin. Students have been given a rubric (above) to show them what is expected in their presentations - so the students present the best possible ideas.
English:

This week students continued to read our class text, while analyzing the vocabulary and the actions of our main character Tally as she negotiates her first year at high school. During writing, we practiced writing letters that portrayed gratitude with particular attention to personal ideas and descriptive language. Next week students will begin to put together memories of their time at Primary School, while continuing to read our text. Students will also undertake end of year assessment to show what they have learnt throughout this semester.
Mathematics:
This week students began undertaking assessment to enable teachers to report on your students progress for the end of this year. Next week students begin learning about Data and Location.
Integrated Studies:
This term's topic is 'Taking Charge of my Health'. This week students investigated the benefits of regular physical activity and how to integrate it into their daily life. Next week, students will notice our body signals and what they tell us about our health and feelings.
Social & Emotional Learning:
This week students have been revising how to seek help when they need it. Next week they will be looking at ways to resolve conflict.
Auslan:
This week and next the students will begin undergoing assessment of their previous learning, the students are winding up their Auslan learning as they head towards the end of their Primary School Learning. The focus at this stage is about embedding, and having instant recall of their Auslan signs, and putting their learning into simple contexts.
