Year Five
Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Bethany Families,
This week, our students have begun to use specific problem solving skills in English and Maths. In English we are reading texts that require the students to reword the meaning of the passage in their own words. In Maths, the students have been given written problems where they need to determine which operations they need to use to solve them. For social emotional learning students explored patterns of behaviour, attitudes, and experiences at school, and in religion they continued to create and make items to sell on fundraiser day.
Next Week
Religious Education:
Next week students will be attending the Remembrance Day prayer service on Tuesday. The students will sell the items they have made to raise funds for Christ Mission India, and then reflect upon their teamwork and organisation.
English:
Next week we will continue to read our novel "The Last Bear", and discuss vocabulary related to the text. The students will read a fluency passage in pairs and answer summarising questions about the passage, and use their notes about polar bears to complete a persuasive letter.
Mathematics :
The students will learn how to divide numbers that have been rounded up, down, and conventionally.
Integrated Studies:
Next week in Health, students explain how healthy food choices help their body systems work well, determine sources of reliable and unreliable information, and plan a healthy lifestyle that includes good nutrition, exercise, rest, and balance.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week, students will indentify behaviours that build respectful cross gender relationships.
Auslan:
Next week, students will begin some end of year assessments and revisions of previously learned signs. Ask your child which is their favourite sign and see if they can sign it for you and demonstrate how to sign.
Fundraising - Christ Mission India
Over the past two weeks, our Year 5 students have been working hard to create a variety of handmade items. On Thursday the 13th of November these will be available for purchase at our fundraising event to support Christ Mission India. Items will be priced at just $1 or $2. Students will have the opportunity to take part in this special event and make a difference for those in need through Christ Mission India.
HATS - During term 4, school hats are mandatory.
As students’ bodies and minds continue to develop, it’s important they start the day well-nourished. We kindly ask families to ensure that students come to school having eaten a healthy breakfast. A nutritious start to the day helps students maintain focus, energy, and a positive attitude throughout the morning, particularly during the first two hours of learning when concentration is vital. Thank you for your support in helping our students be ready to learn and do their best each day.
Reminder for students to bring in forks or spoons with their lunch.
