Mandarin- Mr Su

Junior Level

In Term 4, our Prep students have started a new language learning topic on animals, and students were also encouraged to use the vocabulary of body parts that they learnt last term to describe different animals in Mandarin. In addition to that, Prep students have also explored some fundamental descriptive words such as ‘大big’ and ‘小small’, and they have also started practicing the basic writing of Chinese characters. Our Year 1/2 classes have been exploring the topic of weather and learning how to tell day and time in short conversations. Students have also further explored the customs and traditions of Mid-Autumn Festival through a variety of learning activities.

Middle Level

In Term 4, students from Year 3/4 classes have been actively practicing their functional language, and we are focusing on learning the vocabulary and expressions around hobbies and leisure activities this term. We are also further developing our knowledge of how to use pinyin to spell out the pronunciations of different Mandarin words, as well as recognising the common Chinese characters. 

Senior Level

Extended from our previous learning on expressions around traveling, students in Year 5/6 have been exploring the topic of countries and continents. We had a lot of fun working in small groups learning about geography as well while practicing our language skills in Mandarin. Through some writing practices we have completed over the past few weeks, it is also great to see how our senior students have improved a lot with their understanding of Chinese character structures.
