Living Our Values: Respect

From the Assistant Principal – Wellbeing

This term, our school community has been focusing on one of our core values: Respect. Respect is at the heart of everything we do—it shapes how we treat others, how we care for our environment, and how we see ourselves as learners and community members.

At school, we talk about respect in many forms:

  • Respect for self – making positive choices, taking pride in our efforts, and showing confidence in who we are.
  • Respect for others – listening, including, and valuing different opinions and backgrounds.
  • Respect for our environment – caring for our shared spaces and taking responsibility for keeping them safe and welcoming for everyone.

As part of our whole school approach to wellbeing- respect is one of the expected behaviours as a school value.

Students have been exploring what respect looks like in everyday life—whether that’s using kind words, following instructions, helping a classmate, or showing gratitude to teachers and peers. When we practise respect, we help build a culture where everyone feels valued and connected.

Families can continue to support this at home by talking about what respect looks like in different settings—at school, online, and in the community. A simple question like, “What does respect mean to you?” can spark meaningful reflection and reinforce the positive behaviours we see at school.

Together, by living out our value of Respect, we strengthen the sense of belonging and pride that makes our school such a special place to learn and grow.

Warm regards,
