A Spooky Little Adventure

Our highlight this week in three-year-old kindergarten was our mini neighbourhood walk to observe the spookily decorated Halloween houses!

We took a short walk down to the corner of Elizabeth Street and Peter Street to admire a beautifully decorated house belonging to a member of our kindergarten community. From there, we continued along Peter Street to view another display on the same side of the road before returning through the school gate on Morley Crescent.

As part of our planning, we used this experience to introduce the children to the concept of maps. Together, we explored our route on Google Maps, tracing the path so the children could visualise where we would be going. This supported their understanding of direction, place, and how we move through our neighbourhood.

This small excursion helped to build the children’s confidence and readiness for the larger outings they will experience next year in four-year-old kinder. The children were thrilled by the colourful and creative decorations we discovered along the way. It also provided a perfect opportunity for counting, comparing, noticing details, and sharing our thoughts.

When asked which display was their favourite, the children responded with enthusiastic agreement… “All of them!”
