LOOK WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN AUSLAN AT MPHPS

Hello everyone,

We are looking forward to the next fortnight with lots of fun learning in the Auslan classroom. It’s always great to see students practising the signs they have learnt and being enthusiastic about their learning.

SIGNS OF THE WEEK

Don’t forget to ask your child to show you some of the AUSLAN signs they have been learning. The signs of the week are: ‘would’, ‘could’ & ‘travel.’

IN THE CLASSROOM

YEAR 3 –

Signs related to days of the week in Auslan.

YEAR 4 –

Signs related to transport in Auslan.

YEAR 5 –

Learning about deaf culture in Auslan.

YEAR 6 – Signs related to travel  as well as learning about an Auslan topic of their choice.

Exciting news!!

On Wednesday 12 November, the Auslan Emergency Interpreting (AEI) App was launched. For generations, Deaf and hard of hearing Australians have faced barriers in emergencies, often unable to access help when it mattered the most. Since its establishment in 1961, Triple Zero (000) was inaccessible for Deaf and hard of hearing people.

Until now.

With the launch of the AEI App, Deaf and hard of hearing people who use Auslan now have direct access to Triple Zero through real-time video calls with qualified Auslan interpreters - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days throughout the year. This is more than technology; it’s our human rights finally realised.
