Leadership Report

Written by Amanda Palombi

Dear Saltwater Families,

Welcome to Term 3, Week 8! As we approach the end of the academic year, our staff are hard at work finalising reports and preparing for 2026. We recognise that this time of year can bring a mix of emotions for students, families, and our staff alike. We kindly ask for your continued patience and understanding as we conclude what has been a very busy yet rewarding year. As we plan for the year ahead, please remember that you’re welcome to reach out to your child’s teacher or any member of the leadership team if you need any assistance or clarification.

2026 Years 1-6 Transition Day

In preparation for the upcoming school year, we have organised a Transition Day for students moving into Years 1 through 6. This day offers students a chance to learn about the changes they can anticipate, explore extracurricular options, and meet their future teachers and classmates. Transition Day will be held on Thursday 18 December 2025. We encourage all students to take part in this valuable experience and look forward to welcoming them to their new classes. To help the day run smoothly, we kindly ask families to ensure their child arrives at school on time for the last day of term.

Prep Transition Program 2026

As we wrap up our Prep 2026 Transition Program, we extend our gratitude to the entire school community for creating a calm and supportive environment during our Prep Transition mornings and for warmly welcoming our incoming Prep families. We are delighted with the enthusiasm shown by our future Prep students and their families throughout this program. Our Prep teaching team worked tirelessly to provide a seamless and enriching experience for all children involved. We are excited to continue this journey and look forward to seeing our newest Saltwater community members in 2026.

Secondary Open Evening

Thank you to all the students and their families who attended our Secondary Open Evening at our Coaching Parade Campus. It was a pleasure to host our families and we hope we have eased any anxieties for students transitioning from primary to secondary. A huge shout out to our secondary leadership team for coordinating the night, as well as to our brilliant student leaders, helpers and cafe students who all volunteered their time on the evening.

We can’t wait to meet all secondary students on campus for their upcoming transition day on Tuesday 9 December.

Year 9 Food Technology Dinner

Saltwater College proudly hosted its first Year 9 Food Technology Dinner last Friday evening. Seventeen students showcased their skills by planning, preparing and serving a two-course meal for 31 family members. Guests enjoyed a range of impressive dishes, from Katsu curries and handmade pastas to Oreo baklavas and beautifully crafted desserts.

Our Year 9 Café students helped elevate the night with excellent table service and coffees, while others prepared the venue with floral arrangements and thoughtful table settings. We are incredibly proud of our students’ creativity and professionalism.

Thank you to all families who attended, and a special congratulations to our dedicated Food Technology staff, Katie Colling and Tania Mosheev, for making the event a success.

The Christmas Carols will take place on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th of December. Each class has been rehearsing a special song and preparing choreography to make the event unforgettable.

Curriculum Days 2026

Curriculum days are days set aside by our school for teachers and staff to engage in various activities related to curriculum planning, development, and improvement. These days are designated as non-instructional days for students, meaning that students do not attend school on these days. Instead, teachers and staff use this time for a variety of purposes, including:

  • Curriculum Planning

  • Professional Development

  • Assessment and Data Analysis

  • Collaboration between staff

  • Administrative Tasks

  • Special Projects

In 2026, our school has allocated the following proposed curriculum days:

Term One 2026

  • Tuesday 27 January - Curriculum Day

  • Wednesday 28 January - Curriculum Day

Term Four 2026

  • Monday 2 November - Curriculum Day

  • Friday 18 December - Curriculum Day

Last Day of School

A reminder that the last day of school for students is on Thursday 18 December, with dismissal at 2.30pm for all students from Prep to Year 9.

In 2026, on Thursday 29 January - Years 1-6 return and Prep students begin on Monday 2 February.

Thank you,

On behalf of the Leadership Team
