5/6 Camp

Camp Weekaway

Last week, the Grade 5/6 students went to Camp Weekaway in Benloch. I had the pleasure of attending and it was a blast! During the first two days, we rotated around in our groups and participated in 6 activities in the bush. We did archery, hut building, giant maze, crate stacking, possum glider and bush laser tag (my personal favourite)! The weather was absolutely perfect and the scenery was stunning.

The first night we went for a night walk in the bush with our torches and ended with a campfire where we all toasted marshmallows. The second night, we had a talent show, with every dorm room performing an act for everyone.

On the final day, we were met with a drizzle of rain, but that didn't stop us! We put on our raincoats and trudged through to the initiative course which involved several team building activities which were all alot of fun.

I have never been on school camp before (as an adult) so I didn't really know what to expect. The camp itself was amazing. Beautiful countryside, lovely enthusiastic staff and good food. It was also expertly run by Kara and the 5/6 team. There was so much care, kindness, respect and trust and I was truly impressed. Then there are the students. I was so impressed! It is a big deal being away from your family for 3 days for alot of children, and there was a bit of homesickness but they took it in their stride and carried on and had a great time. The 5/6 group as a whole were delightful. They were so well behaved, supportive and inclusive and we were all so proud of them.
