Student Well-being
Year 5/6 Community
This term, the Year 5/6 community explored the theme of "positive coping" as part of their Respectful Relationships curriculum in Wellbeing. A major focus was on understanding and practising "self-talk" — the internal dialogue we have with ourselves. Students learned how these inner conversations can significantly influence how we respond to challenging situations.
Students practised transforming negative thoughts into supportive and motivational ones through engaging activities, including a positive self-talk display, role-play exercises, and rotations exploring self-coping strategies. They discovered that when they're feeling down at school or home, they can use strategies like drawing, reading, talking to a friend, getting active, or getting organised as ways to shift their mindset. These skills aim to empower students to maintain resilience and confidence when faced with difficulties.
By the end of the term, students had gained a deeper understanding of how they can support themselves and each other through positive self-talk and effective coping techniques.
