Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in writing we are continuing to learn how to write a persuasive text that considers the audience and purpose.

VOCABULARY

Persuade - to make someone do or believe something by giving them a good reason to do it or by talking to that person and making them believe it.

Purpose: the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal.

Audience: who the author writes their text for.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Swimming is a fun and active sport. Every year, our school offers its students a ‘learn to swim’ program at our local pool. Should it be compulsory for all students to learn to swim? Do we really need to know how to swim? What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?

Ask your child to brainstorm reasons for both sides of the argument. When they’ve completed the brainstorm, choose their strongest reason and write a paragraph following the OREO structure.
