Canberra Excursion Success
I am delighted to share that our Year 6 Canberra Excursion was a tremendous success! This experience provided our students with valuable opportunities to explore our nation’s capital, deepen their understanding of Australia’s history, and engage with key institutions such as Parliament House and the Australian War Memorial.
Throughout the excursion, our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour, curiosity, and enthusiasm, embodying the values of our school. They asked insightful questions, participated actively, and represented our community with pride.
A special thank you to our dedicated staff who accompanied the students and ensured the trip was both educational and enjoyable. Your commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences is greatly appreciated.
To our parents and guardians, thank you for your support in preparing your children for this adventure. It is through your encouragement and trust that such experiences are made possible.
Our Year 6 students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The sites they visited included:
- The Australian War Memorial
- Parliament House
- Museum of Australian Democracy
- Australian Electoral Commission Education Centre
- Australian Institute of Sport
- National Capital Exhibition
- National Film and Sound Archive
- National Arboretum
- Questacon
- National Museum of Australia
- National Dinosaur Museum
- iPlay and Laser Tag Centre
- Mount Ainslie Lookout
The memories and lessons from this excursion will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our Year 6 students as they prepare for High School.
PACER Rebate for Yr 6 Canberra Excursion
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $67.50 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. As a school we factored in this $67.50 and pitched in $32.50 to provide families with a $100 per student reduction on the total cost of the excursion.
Until next week,
Keep smiling,
Alison Hatton
