Year 6 Reflections
Mrs Moore’s Retirement Mass
On the 8th of November, we celebrated Mrs Moore’s Retirement Mass. It was a sad sad day for all of the St Joseph's community and Mrs Moore's friends, colleagues, and family. We all went to church at 9am-10am and we had been seated and ready to start the heartwarming mass.
The mass started and we were all getting a few tears in our eyes but that's alright that was a bittersweet day for everyone. After Father Gallacher ended the mass we played the slideshow that the school made for Mrs Moore. She loved it.
In the Guard of Honour, everyone fell into tears because that was a heartbreaking moment for all. After we all exited the mass the grown-ups went to the morning tea inside the hall and we all got on with the rest of our day.

Us Mob Walawurru
This year, Years 5 & 6 have been reading the book Us Mob Walawurru, and its main character is Ruby. It is set in the 1960s and it focuses on Aboriginal life in Central Australia. Ruby is part of the Luritja mob and lives on a cattle station.
It starts off set at their school, then they have a sports carnival in Tulu, and afterward, they move to Big Sky Station, where Ruby starts to learn more about her culture and meets some more of her mob. She was really sad about moving, but soon realised how much better they were treated at their new station and she is really enjoying life there.
The book talks about culture, family, and the similarities and differences between the two cultures. It has been a great resource for us to learn more about Aboriginal history and culture.
We found it really interesting to learn about their life, and some things were shocking, like how Uncle Archie wasn’t paid in money, but by having shelter and food provided.
Now, at Big Sky Station, they get paid in cash, which was really surprising for their mob. Ruby learned things about white people’s culture that weren't a thing in their culture, like the concept of owning things, and Ruby was amazed by a verandah.

Bullying Incursion
On the 1st of November, the Year 5s and 6s did a bullying incursion. Three people came in and their names were Ella, Locky, and Riley.
We learned about different types of bullying like verbal, physical, online, and relational/social bullying.
They were teaching us how to be safe online and what to do if we are getting bullied online or how to help others who are being bullied.
Relational bullying can be online and it can be verbal. Relational bullying online is when you tell an embarrassing story to someone and they tell others and the story gets changed to something completely different.
Physical bullying is when you get physically hurt like getting punched, kicked, bitten, and scratched on purpose.
Online bullying is when someone or a group of people target a person online to purposely make them feel bad.
Verbal bullying is when you mean or say bad things straight to someone's face to make them sad.
There were lots of great ideas and strategies to help keep ourselves safe, and to help make the world a kinder place.
