Captains Corner

Welcome to the Captain’s Corner, with Alyssia and Patrick!

In these past two weeks, we have had a bullying incursion for the year 5/6s, and we had a big mass for our Principal Mrs Moore!

The bullying incursion was so fun! We had three amazing people called Ella, Riley and Lochie. They were so fun and to be honest they were besties with everybody!

Ella told us that when she was younger she was in the school play Annie and her school hired an actual dog who is an actor to play Annies best friend! But then drama happened. The photographer accidently took a flash photo and the dog ran down the aisle! But… Ella was holding the dog's lead and got dragged down the aisle with the dog! She was really worried that she got a concussion…

Lachie told us that when he was younger he really wanted a phone but his Mum wouldn't buy him one because they were so expensive so he did chores for ages and saved up for one! He bought an old fashioned flip phone and when he opened up the phone it would play a little tune! He had been opening and closing it so much that one day when he opened up his school bag… it was broken in half! Then his mum refused to ever buy him a phone again!

Back to the teaching,  They taught us about all the types of bullying and that it isn't just physical. There is relational, online, physical and verbal bullying.

Relational bullying is like passing on rumours. The rumours can be easily changed to be more dramatic. People love exaggerating when gossiping.

Physical bullying is physical actions such as punching, kicking, biting, throwing stuff at people and so on.

Verbal bullying is saying mean or hurtful words to a person directly.

Online bullying is saying mean words to people over the internet such as writing a mean comment or saying something rude on a chat.

We learned about some strategies we can use to keep ourselves safe.

Last Friday we had Mrs Moore's farewell mass :( It was packed with past teachers/ students, everyone in the school, her family and her friends.

We sang her all her favourite songs such as African Blessing, Do This in Memory of Me, Welcome to St Joseph and These Hands This Heart.

At the very end of the mass, we did a Guard of Honour for her. All the Year 6s formed two lines for her to walk through with her family which was really nice :)

We will really miss her at St Josephs and it’s really unfair that she had to retire. She was so amazing to all of us.
