STEM @ Sunbury

Sunbury College Women in STEM

On Thursday 24th October, our Sunbury College Women in STEM Year 9 and 10 students participated in the Future Leaders in STEM program with RMIT University.

Our students hosted Grade 6 students from Goonawarra Primary School and ran three workshops teaching them land surveying skills using specialised equipment. This involved showing students how to measure height and distance using a total station, how to navigate using a compass and measuring tape, and how scans of a room or land can be taken with a laser scanner.

Our young women in STEM demonstrated exceptional leadership, guiding the younger students through each activity with patience and enthusiasm. The workshops not only provided valuable hands-on experience in surveying techniques but also allowed our Year 9 and 10 students to develop essential skills in public speaking and interpersonal communication. Our students proved to be inspiring role models, showcasing the exciting possibilities in STEM fields and encouraging younger students to explore these areas further.
