Year 9 and 10
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Term 4 has been one of the busiest terms for Middle School, especially for our Year 10s.
The start of Term 4 signified the beginning of our exam period; an important time for our students as it prepares and sets the tone for our students on what to expect before moving into their sneior years of education.
In the first four weeks of the term, the Year 10 cohort finalised their last assessments and completed the curriculum content in each of their classes, before beginning exam revision and exam preparation in the following week. Exams in all 24 subjects were held from Monday 11th November, with assessment conducted according to the simulated expectations and requirements of VCAA senior exams.
Our Year 10 students should be commended on their conduct during this time; the positive attitude and commitment shown towards the exams was excellent. Assessment periods can be stressful, yet we find our students shine and rise to the occasion as they take pride in their ability to showcase their knowledge. Well done to all Year 10s.
The Year 9s have also had a chance to participate in their last excursion of the year, which took place on 15th November in the Melbourne CBD. ‘The Amazing Race’ excursion is an opportunity for our students to navigate the city using multiple modes of transport to find checkpoints and complete challenges while working together with other students.
We have loved watching the Year 9 cohort grow in their positive attitude, maturity, and solutions focused approach to the challenges set as they built an understanding of completing tasks while in an unfamiliar environment. We hope they enjoyed the experience and found it rewarding.
We are now moving into our Head Start program with students now working in their 2025 classes. This opportunity allows students to begin working through new content, prepare for the expectations and standards of a new year level, and understand what the outcomes will be for their new subjects.
We encourage all families and at home supports to discuss with their children what their new classes look like and what topics they are covering during Head Start.
We are also looking forward to our Vertical Learning Journey Program starting on Monday 2nd December, and hope the students take up the opportunities to experience activities being run both at school and during excursions. These programs are a compulsory expectation for students' attendance, and we encourage all families to promote the importance of the activities at home.
Warm regards,
Middle School Team
Highlights from the term
Year 10 Formal
On Thursday 19th September, Sunbury College Year 10 students dressed to impress and attended their Year 10 formal. The event was held at Lakeside Banquet and Convention Centre in Taylors Lakes. It was great to see students and staff celebrating 2024 with music and food. Here are some pictures from the night.
Solar Ovens
This term, our Year 9 Science students have been heating things up!
They’ve been learning all about heat transfer mechanisms like conduction, convection, and radiation. To put their knowledge to the test, students designed and built their own solar ovens using everyday materials like aluminum foil, black paper, and cardboard. It’s been amazing to see their creativity and teamwork in action!
