Compass Go Live

Dear Parents/Carers

As advised in our most recent newsletter, the College is moving from ‘Xuno’ to ‘Compass’ as the platform Gisborne Secondary College uses to support teaching, learning and student management.  Whilst many families in our school community are already familiar with Compass as it’s the platform used by many local primary schools, please read this communication carefully as the change impacts all parents/carers.

What

Compass will replace Xuno and Teams, with the intention of not only providing greater visibility for parents/carers but also to make it easier for students to manage their learning as they’ll be using a single platform to access their learning tasks and assessments.

Compass will be your destination for accessing your child’s key assessment tasks to see how they’re tracking academically throughout the year.  This was a consideration in the move to Compass, as a response to parent/carer feedback of the desire for regular visibility on the learning tasks students have been assigned, how the students have performed and any feedback, outside the term/semester reports.

Parents/carers will also have greater visibility on any incidents recorded for their children via the Chronicle section of the platform.

When

Compass will go live to all current families in late January 2025.  From this date the school will exclusively use Compass which you can access via the Compass App.   Later today, Friday 20th December 2024, you can expect to receive a system generated email with your login credentials, an example of what you can expect to receive appears below.

Call to Action

The most important action you need to take presently is to download the Compass App.

Instructions on how to do this are included in the attached Parent Guide.

The Parent Guide has been provided to support you in familiarising yourself further with the Compass platform.
