Primary School
Orientation Day - Preparing for change
The Primary school was buzzing on Friday for our annual Orientation Day! Everyone was excited to spend the morning, in their year group for 2025, with new students adjusting and experiencing their new environment. It was lovely to meet so many new families at the information session and speak so fondly about our wonderful school community.
Each class were doing different activities including get-to-know-you games, quizzes, outdoor activities, scavenger hunts and problem solving. In Year One the children were given some secret Lego bags, and they had ten minutes to build something to show the rest of the class. The ideas were fabulous, from a possum house, a hammer, a mansion for chickens, a crane and an air conditioning unit! They then made some helicopters, using their super cutting skills!
Year Two - Market Stall
Congratulations to Rosie, Lucy, Saakhi, Pippa, Aurora and Amaya on a successful stall and thank you to their families for the support in preparing it all.
The sun shone bright, the banners flew,
Six girls had a mission and knew what to do.
For the Darcy Effect, their hearts took the lead,
With cakes, kebabs, and toys to meet the need.
The tables were set, the books in a line,
Second-hand treasures, each one a find.
Fidget toys sparkled, cakes smelled divine,
Fruit kebabs glistened, each slice a sign.
Then came the crowd, a buzzing, loud throng,
Students with coins, all hurrying along.
Eager to buy, with excitement and cheer,
Their little market became the event of the year.
They smiled, they sold, their hands worked with glee,
As friends and peers joined in the spree.
An amazing success, beyond what they planned,
Together they achieved something truly grand.
For the Darcy Effect they rallied, their hearts full of pride,
The Year 2 Market Stall was a wonderful ride.
With laughter and joy, they learned and they grew,
A day to remember—hooray for Year Two!

Primary School: Year level Information and News.
Read on to discover what has been happening in each classroom over the last week.
Djinda: This week in Djinda we really started to get into the festive spirit. Whilst listening to Christmas classics, we started making Christmas decorations and discussed what we all love about Christmas. Last week we had our Kindy Orientation Day. It was fun pretending to be a Kindy Kid for the morning!
Kindergarten: We have had a mischievous visitor in Kindy causing mayhem each day. A magic elf arrived in the post last week to conduct surveillance for Santa! Each day we come into the classroom and find he has been up to something. Last week he was found in the FOGO bin dressed as a banana! The joy on the faces of the Kindy students faces makes everyone’s day.
Year One: The Year One class has been busy learning about sound in Science lessons (as part of our inquiry into ‘how we use light and sound in celebrations’). They were given the task of creating a musical instrument, from everyday recycled materials, that could make sounds with different pitches and volumes. The ideas they came up with were really clever and unique and ranged from mini bagpipes, to ‘ding dongs’ (that could be plucked, banged and shaken) and shrums (a shaker drum). The highlight was the class orchestra, where everyone played their instruments to demonstrate quiet and loud sounds and different notes.
Year Two: We have been working hard on our lifecycle presentations this week. The students have been using their research skills to investigate a lifecycle (other than a butterfly). They have presented them in a variety of ways and are on display on the window outside our classroom. We will be presenting these to the class next week as an oral presentation so we can all learn about the amazing lifecycles of different animals.
Year Three:
Evie F – Swimming is really fun because we get to swim and be with our friends and meet new people. My swimming class gets to join with another group so we get to connect and learn both levels.
Kenzie M – Swimming is fun and we get to learn how to save people and how to save yourself.
Mason - So, I like just swimming and I like learning strokes. I like doing swim with people.
Beau H – The thing I like about swimming is we can show people how to do strokes and the instructor helps us to learn.
Year Four: As we are starting to wrap-up an incredible year in Year Four, our week has been brimming with engaging activities and reflections. In Mathematics, we dove into exciting investigations. Double Trouble challenged us to transform shapes, question claims, and prove or disprove mathematical ideas. Meanwhile, Movie Madness saw students exploring timetables, graphing, and justifying their decisions, sharpening both their analytical and critical thinking skills.
In English, we continued crafting biographies, celebrating the lives and achievements of explorers, and began a special reflective project – writing letters to our future selves. It’s a meaningful way for students to capture their thoughts, goals, and hopes to revisit in the years to come. A highlight for both of us was attending the Interschool Athletics Carnival last week, where we proudly cheered on our Year Four Interschool team. They competed with skill, determination, and true sportsmanship, exemplifying their love for sport and teamwork.
Year Five: We had a fabulous time last Friday, learning all about the exciting adventures that await us in Year Six. Our House Leader posters went up this week and we are all very eager to present our speeches in front of our Houses next Monday. We have finished our 3D models which reflect the changes to the Swan River Colony over a 100-year period, which we will display for the Primary School next week.
Year Six: Year Six students have been engaged in some lively debates, showing off our public speaking skills and the art of rhetoric. Topics include: Should Christmas carols be sung before 1 Dec, and is it better to receive or give gifts? Well done to all students for their teamwork, confidence, and communication skills.
Year Six continues to prepare for their special learning celebration at the end of term, raising the roof with our voices and showing great comradery and determination to succeed.
We also turn our focus to community service this week and prepare to complete some very special, long-lasting projects, including the making of 1,000 felt-sewn hearts that will be given away to those in need. In this way, Year Six aims to spread some extra love and kindness in our community. An excursion is being planned to visit some residential aged care facilities next week.
