It’s been strange with the quietness after the Fete. There are no more boxes everywhere, no more parents hanging outside my office wrapping wine, and no more students super excitedly talking about how much fun they will have. What a wonderful event it was. Thank you again for your hard work and support. What a wonderful community we have at Fitzroy North Primary School.
We have managed to include a few fun events in the week. Bike education has been running all week. Ben and the students have been riding around the school and the neighbourhood, practising skills and road safety.
The Grade 5s participated in a science lab incursion and made homemade bath bombs. You can’t enter their classroom area without the whiff of the scented bath bombs getting you!
We have had another wonderful Prep transition session. Our new members had a chance to do crafts with Maddi and participate in fun motor development activities. The Grade 5 students have been the greatest buddies already, supporting the new preppies with transition and helping the teachers as well. It’s been lovely seeing them more involved and starting to take over the leadership roles.
The grade 1/2 sustainability Inquiry project, which examines reusing and recycling, has been going strong. Last week at assembly, they showcased many of our lost property items and managed to find some owners. They have also been educating the students to look after their clothes and always label them!
Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, we have Heather Westwood from IB Australia coming in. Heather will be observing us and having conversations to support us further with implementing the PYP framework. We had the opportunity to work with Heather last term when she ran the PYP professional learning sessions with the staff. We are extremely excited to share our journey thus far with Heather, showing her what PYP feels like and looks like for our learners; and celebrate the work the staff have put in. A big thank you to Hannah and Joe for their hard work and support in this journey.
Please remember Term 4 is a Sun Smart term. This week has been the perfect reminder to look after ourselves in the sun. All students MUST have a Sun Smart hat to play outside and go on an excursion. NO hat means NO play, students will be asked to sit in the shaded areas. All classrooms and the front office have sunscreen available for students to use. If your child is sensitive to sunscreen, please provide them with their own sunscreen to keep at school.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, stay cool tomorrow.
