Looking Ahead - Weeks 7 and 8

We’re thrilled to share how well your children have been progressing! Over the past weeks, they’ve shown remarkable stamina and resilience as they continue with their assessments. It’s wonderful to see them growing and learning every day, and we’re proud of their efforts.

Excitingly, our Dance Incursion is in full swing! The students have been learning new moves, building confidence, and having lots of fun along the way. To celebrate, we invite you to join us for the Dance Showcase on Friday, 22nd November at 2:30 pm. It will be a joyful event where the kids can share their hard work and enthusiasm with you.

Please note, there will be a curriculum day on Friday, 29th November, so no classes will be held. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. It truly makes a difference!

Numeracy

In weeks 7 and 8, our Prep students will engage with a range of concepts to build their mathematical thinking and understanding. They’ll work with graphs to collect and interpret data, exploring ideas like “least” and “most” popular choices. These will be hands-on activities that will make learning fun and relatable as they see numbers in action.

Students will also use a 100’s chart for various counting and patterning activities to reinforce their understanding of number sequences. Additionally, they’ll practice ordinal numbers, learning to sequence and order events, and use number lines to practice “counting on.” These activities will help them build a solid foundation in number sense and confidence in math..

Literacy

Our Prep students will be introduced to the new Heart Word, "go," which they’ll practice recognising, sounding out and using in writing. They’ll also explore the concept of open and closed syllables, helping them understand how words are broken down into syllables and how this affects pronunciation.

Handwriting practice will continue, building their fine motor skills and confidence in

writing clearly, using finger spacing and on the bold line. Spelling activities will reinforce their understanding of familiar words and phonics patterns. Additionally, students will dive into story writing by focusing on character, setting, and plot, encouraging them to develop rich, engaging narratives. These activities support their growth as confident, expressive writers.

Science

Science learning with Wilko continues to excite and captivate our young learners! Recently, the students explored the fascinating world of dinosaurs, learning how each dinosaur’s unique footprints connect to its specific traits and survival needs. They examined how different footprint features benefited each type of dinosaur, making interesting comparisons between the sizes of human and dinosaur footprints.

Wilko then took them on a virtual journey to the Dinosaur Coast in Broome, where they observed dinosaur footprints embedded in the Broome Sandstone. The Preps were captivated, to say the least, and their curiosity for science continues to grow with each session!

As we move into the latter part of the term, it’s heartwarming to see the joy and enthusiasm the students bring to each day. They remain fully engaged, curious, and excited about their learning, and it’s a delight to watch them grow. Your continued support means so much to us and truly enriches the students' learning experiences. Here’s to more joyful weeks of learning and discovery ahead for 2024!

Warm regards,

Alex, Rhiannon, Isabella, and Kate

VISUAL ARTS

ART SHOW EXTENSION CONNECTIONS

After the art show, some classes visited the ‘Foyer Gallery’ during art time with Ms V to look closer at other student’s work and take some inspirations. Students sketched favourite pieces or created a new piece using the other artists’ ideas.  On returning to the art room, students could choose how to complete a new piece of ‘Art Show Inspired Art’. It was very interesting to see which ideas and techniques were favourites, and this in turn will inspire planning for new artworks in 2025.

Love Art!
