Literacy

We are currently in the midst of our assessment period. Students have completed two cold writes and their PAT reading assessment in the last fortnight. There are still a few assessment tasks to complete in the next week or two with time for makeup sessions for those who have missed out due to absence.

In between assessments using the text 'One Minutes Silence', we have been learning to use connections, images and prior knowledge to make inferences. We will be focusing on poetry writing in the coming week.

Maths

Alongside assessments, students are getting familiar with protractors, measuring and estimating acute, obtuse and reflex angles. Students are being exposed to both online protractors, as well as using their own protractors.

Our next topic for the fortnight will be on shapes, specifically translating, reflecting and rotating shapes on a grid. Students have been exposed to

Inquiry

Students are continuing their independent research into developing countries. They are contruction of an Information Report Poster, which will be presented to the class. These reports explain why migrants from that country leave (push factors), difficulties they may face while travelling to Australia, and what life is like as they arrive in Australia.

The students research, note-taking, proof reading, rewording and synthesising skills are in full display through their planning templates and construction of the information report on Canva.

Upstanders

The launch for Upstanders is this Monday Nov 18th at the Highett youth centre. We have some students who will be speaking to introduce the theme of the project, talk about the experience of art making and what message we are hoping to send through the installations.

Here is the link for the invite to the launch which is at 6pm on the 18th November at the Peterson Youth Centre in Highett.  – Please Note -  Although it says bookings close on the 15th November there are tickets still available through the organiser if anyone is interested in coming along.

Dance Incursion

Students have been hard at work, rehearsing their 3 allocated dances for the Dance Showcase on Friday the 22nd of November. It has been great to see students stepping out of their comfort zones and getting involved. A highlight is seeing students in the yard practising their moves.

VISUAL ARTS

ART SHOW EXTENSION CONNECTIONS

After the art show, some classes visited the ‘Foyer Gallery’ during art time with Ms V to look closer at other student’s work and take some inspirations. Students sketched favourite pieces or created a new piece using the other artists’ ideas.  On returning to the art room, students could choose how to complete a new piece of ‘Art Show Inspired Art’. It was very interesting to see which ideas and techniques were favourites, and this in turn will inspire planning for new artworks in 2025.

Love Art!

Ms Van Etten.

Rememberance Day Assembly

Remembrance Day Assembly
Remembrance Day Assembly

Our Remembrance Day Assembly was  a very respectful thankgiving to the Australians that have served our nation at times of conflict throughout history since WWI. The students represented themselves and the SEPS community well.

2025 School Leadership

Our school Leadership journey towards the election of student leaders for the 2025 school year is coming to a close. After weeks of learning content and activities based on exploring different types of leadership and what this requires of them, the students have now moved to the final phase of the program where they have studied the various roles available at SEPS in 2025. Many have decided that they want to take leadership opportunities further and have decided to nominate for the various positions. They are now busilly pro[aring speeches and getting feedback from their class teachers about these. In week 8 they will deliver these speeches to the studnets in Levels 4 and 5 as well as the Level 6 Leaders and teacher of the school. We wish them luck as they put themselves forward knowing that many will miss out. This is a process that also develops resilience in students. We ill continue to work with your children in this area leading up to the Voting and beyond.
