On Wednesday, the Junior School hosted an exciting Learning Expo where families filled the classrooms to celebrate the students' hard work throughout the term. The theme for this term's Inquiry learning was Journeys of the Heart. Students learned about the concept of place and explored special places in which they feel connected to God. They also learned about the deep connection Indigenous Australians have to the land, known as Country. Each class researched and chose a class totem that reflected their strengths and shared values. These totems became a meaningful symbol of each class's unique identity and spirit. To wrap up, students reflected on their own personal connections to special places in their lives. The Expo showcased each child’s unique special place, accompanied by a clay totem that symbolised their connection to that place. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to see the learning and creativity of our Grade 1/2 students!
The Grade 6 students were buzzing with excitement as the long awaited Big Day Out at Gumbuya World finally arrived! They couldn’t wait to jump on the rides, laughing and screaming their way through the twists of the roller coasters and the bumps of the Dodgem Cars. The water park stole the show in the warm weather, with everyone racing down twisting slides and floating along the Lazy River. There were loads of laughs and friendly challenges to see who could make the biggest splash or fly down the slides the fastest. By the end of the day, the students were happily exhausted, still giggling and chatting about their favourite moments. It was a day they’ll always remember!
On Tuesday, Kerry from CERES Education visited our school to deliver an engaging incursion on climate change, made possible by Alice’s STEM MAD prize. During the session, students took part in interactive simulations to understand the impacts of climate change on land and water. Kerry also shared ways to reduce waste locally and globally. Students were then grouped to come up with their own solutions to address climate change, demonstrating their creativity and commitment to making a difference. It was a valuable experience that empowered students to think critically about the environment and the role they can play in protecting it.
Our Prep students enjoy Buddy Bump Reading. They pair up, choose a book and take turns to read to each other. The Buddy Bump Reading strategy is when two students read together to improve their reading fluency. This method involves one student reading aloud while the other listens. The roles are then reversed, with each student taking turns as the reader and the listener.
The beginning of Term 4 is an exciting time for our Grade 5 students as they begin to think about and prepare for the 2025 Grade 6 Leadership positions. The senior teachers have begun talking with their students about the many wonderful opportunities that await them. Please see the timeline below and keep an eye on Operoo for further information. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any queries.
