Merry Christmas from us to you!
Foundation
What an amazing year it has been for our Foundation students - filled with learning, laughter, and great memories. From mastering letters and numbers to making new friends and embracing challenges, they’ve achieved so much. Congratulations on a wonderful start to your Sacred Heart journey! We can’t wait to see what you achieve next!
Goodbye and Thank you
To my Sacred Heart Community,
As I prepare to say goodbye after eight incredible years, my heart is filled with gratitude, love, and countless memories. It has been a privilege and an honour to grow alongside such an inspiring group of incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families.
To my students: You are the reason I became a teacher, and you continue to remind me of the joy and purpose in this work. Watching you learn and grow has been nothing short of magical. Never forget that you are capable of achieving amazing things!
To the families and wider community: Thank you for entrusting me with your children’s education and for your unwavering partnership and support!
Sacred Heart will forever hold a special place in my heart and I will cherish the memories forever.
With gratitude and love,
Bethany
Year 1
Year 1 had lots of fun making Christmas Gingerbread men today.
We mixed flour, sugar, ginger and syrup and rolled out the dough with a rolling pin.
We then used a special cutter to make a gingerbread shape. We added currants for eyes and buttons, and then cooked them in the oven.
We ate them at lunchtime - yum!
Year 2/3
Hello Families,
It has been another successful week in our class. The children have been working hard on writing their persuasive text in class and this week some children read them at the assembly. They have all come so far this year and it has been such a joy to see them grow and progress with confidence and courage. Thank you for all your help and support this year.
We wish you a wonderful and sunny weekend.
Year 3/4
As part of their Inquiry unit on the environment and sustainability, Year 3/4 students researched 'Adaptation and Human Impact'. They then presented their amazing learning to Marie and the Year 4/5 students.
Monkeys - By Eva, Austin and Mia
Many monkeys spend a lot of their time swinging from and climbing trees, so their bodies have adapted to make this quicker and easier. Some monkeys have prehensile tails, which means their tails can grasp objects. Sometimes, monkeys will hang from branches with their tails while they eat a meal. Their adaptations help them live well in the forest, where climbing and swinging are important for survival.
Red pandas - By Chloe and Laura
Red pandas live in cold, mountain forests with bamboo, like in the Himalayas. They have thick fur and a bushy tail to keep warm in their cold environment. Red pandas are good at climbing trees using their strong claws, which helps them find food and stay safe in the forests where they live.
People chopping bamboo - By Lawrence
Pandas rely on bamboo for most of their food, but people are cutting it down to make furniture, which harms the pandas' environment. While they also eat meat, fruit, vegetables, and fish, it is becoming harder for them to find food. With only 1,864 pandas left, they are at risk of disappearing if we don't protect their habitat. The loss of bamboo due to human activity is a major threat to their survival. If we don’t take care of them, pandas could be gone forever.
Capybara - By Olivia and Georgia
Capybaras live in areas like rivers, lakes, and swamps in countries such as Brazil and Argentina. They are semi-aquatic and spend much of their time in water, where their bodies are well adapted to their environment. Capybaras have webbed toes that help them swim, and their long, thick fur dries quickly after being in the water. They use their sharp teeth to graze on grass and water plants, but during the dry season, they eat reeds and melons. Their ability to adapt to both land and water environments helps them survive in various habitats.
Snow Leopards - By Arvin and Viraj
Snow leopards live in cold, mountainous regions and have special adaptations to survive in their environment. They have thick fur to keep warm and large paws that act like snowshoes, helping them move easily in deep snow. Snow leopards are also great jumpers, able to leap over 45 feet to cross rocky landscapes. Their strong legs and ability to run fast help them catch prey in the harsh mountain environment.
Tigers - Massie and Sai
Tigers have orange fur with black stripes and a white belly, which helps them blend into their jungle environment while hunting. The stripes act as camouflage, making it harder for prey to see them in the tall grass or trees. Each tiger has a unique pattern of stripes, which helps them stay hidden in their natural habitat.
Yellow Canaries - Raffaela
Yellow canaries can live for 6 years in the wild, but they can live up to 15 years in a home. They eat seeds and drink water to stay healthy. Yellow canaries are found in Southern Africa, where they live in open grasslands and forests. One interesting fact is that male canaries sing more often than females, especially to attract mates.
Gibbons (small apes) - Katalina and Mason
Gibbons are small, fluffy apes that live in trees. They eat fruit, leaves, and sometimes young birds. Gibbons swing from tree to tree and rarely go on the ground. After birth, the mother cares for her baby for 2-3 years before it leaves. These adaptations help gibbons live in the forest.
Well done, amazing Year 3 and 4 students!
Year 4/5
This week, the year 4/5 students were excited when asked to start planting new flowers into the flower beds at the front of our school. The Australian native plants the Kangaroo Paws were to be planted. Students had to firstly pull out any weeds or dead plants still in the ground. They then dug a hole, pulled the Kangaroo Paw from its original container and placed it into that hole. They covered each plant with soil and finally gave it a good watering. Students also made sure that the front of our school was cleaned up and looking welcoming for anyone who will visit Sacred Heart! Well done everyone!

Writing ~ Wellbeing
The last piece of work in our RRRR (Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships) curriculum has been for the students to list, then rank, their top ten most powerful positive verbs that they value amongst their network of friends and relations. What would you rate as the most important trait of a friend? Check these out!
My first and most important personality in friendship is Trust.
I chose Trust, as it is what I value most in a heartfelt long lasting friendship. Trust gives you a calm sense of friendship, as it lets you know that your friend understands you a lot and trusts you. Trust, lets you believe that your friendship bond is firm and tight. It allows you to remember that you have a belonging to that friendship. Trust also helps you mentally, as if you feel guilt bubbling up inside of you, you can always rely on that friend to hold it tight and keep it secure and safe. Secrets are a humongous part of trust too. Trust is all about reliability and disclosure. It is also about obligation and commitment, what I mean by this is that, when a friend or a person asks you to bring something, they put their trust in you to obey that order. Trust helps me to believe that I’m safe and protected, it also allows me to have faith and trust them, like they do me. Trust is not just a five letter word, it is a word that friendship is tied to. Katelin
Forgiveness is the most important thing on my list even though it is 5th on my rankings but overall it is the best thing on there because just imagine forgiveness didn't exist basically nobody would have friends all because they didn’t forgive each other unless some people can never have arguments with each other or have no reason to forgive everybody would be lonely, sad and probably depressed. Bhavin
For my top 5,
I chose Smile as my number one cause it’s what makes a friend a friendly person.
For my number two, I chose Promise because promise is what makes my friendship with my friends bigger.
I chose a hug for my number three because it's comforting when I’m feeling a bit down.
For number four, I chose trust because a friendship is built on trust and trusting each other.
And for number five, I choose support because having friends means having to support each other in hard times.

You offered them. Ali

Gail
For my top verb, I chose “welcome”. Why you might ask? What’s the first thing you want to feel when you go to a new school? You’d want to feel welcomed. To enter someone's household, you must be welcomed in. Last year and this year too. Welcome will always be at the top of my list. Keefe
I chose these positive words as my top ten because I feel that they should be in all the relationships I have with my friends and family. I chose help as my number one because I feel as if I need help and no one is there. That could be horrible, because if I got hurt and no one helped me I'd be devastated. I put talk as my number two and my particular reason for this circumstance is that I love talking to people, and if I had no one to talk to I’d probably feel lonely. I had respect as my third choice as if I was not respected I’d be mad at them, for if someone did not respect my property or me and my family, I'd be furious. I wanted trust to be my 4th number, as trust is a very important thing. If there is no trust in a relationship then why be in that relationship. Trust is something that relationships rely on. Next to the number 5 on my sheet you will see wave. Why wave? You aske, well I wave a lot and once someone didn't wave back. That's when I knew I had done something. The problem was resolved but now I like waving just in case I’ve done something, and I would hate for someone to get hurt. Jacob

My top five were really hard to choose, but here they are!

- Sympathise: Whenever I can relate to someone, I feel closer and that I can trust them more. Isabella
These are my top ten positive relationship words I put enjoy as number one because life is short, you should enjoy it, Enjoying something is the best feeling ever! It’s like when you get to play your favorite game or eat a big scoop of ice cream on a sunny day. When I enjoy something, it makes me feel happy inside, like my heart is doing a little dance. It could be anything, like riding my bike super fast, drawing a funny picture, or even just laughing with my friends. Enjoying moments like that makes life so much fun and exciting, like every day is a little adventure waiting to happen.
Sometimes, enjoying things is also about noticing small, awesome stuff. A small giggle. Like when the sun feels warm on my face or when my dog wags its tail because it's happy to see me. I think "enjoy" is a magical word because it reminds me to smile and be thankful for all the cool things I get to do. It’s like finding tiny treasures in the middle of an ordinary day! Be happy! Veer

Caring for someone would be showing love, respecting someone would be showing love and so on. That’s why love is number one on my list. Ishe
Do Unto Others....
As we approach Christmas, in this first week of Advent, we think about those in our community less fortunate than us and see Christmas as a time of loneliness and despair. The Year 5/6 students have been busy, in partnership with St Vincent de Paul, making Christmas cards and peace cranes that will accompany a SVDP gift card for families in the Preston area.
