Congratulations to Charlie Kuhn, Year 10, on her generosity and significant contribution to the Vinnies food collection.
Congratulations to Grady McCourt, Year 10, on his much appreciated assistance in the recent ICAS competitions.
Well done Scarlett! You are a great ambassador for our school!
To celebrate National Science Week, this week we welcomed scientist, mathematician, engineer and artist, Zlatko Balazic, to St Brigid’s College.
The theme of Science Week this year is ‘Innovation’. Zlatko brought in his Light Station Extravaganza creation, built of repurposed items, for the students to explore. Zlatko works with various materials such as composite steel, aluminium, timber, fabrics and perspex. He utilises the latest state of the art microcontrollers, LED lighting and electronic sensors to construct artistic and interactive pieces of work for students to get hands on with and create their own sounds and lighting experience. Students rotated through exploring the exhibit and completing a science challenge.
Today we welcomed SMJ Horsham Grade 4 students to explore the exhibit and get involved in some more science activities. They also got to experience some secondary school science experiments, thanks to Ms McCann, which they were very impressed with! Thanks to Mrs Abbott for bringing the Grade 4’s to visit St Brigid's and celebrate Science Week with us!
Congratulations to St Brigid's College Year 9 students, Mia Rees and Isabella Mitton, for their success in the HDFNL Junior Vote Count!
Mia was awarded Best & Fairest, receiving 27 votes. Isabella was awarded runner-up Best & Fairest, having received 24 votes. Well done!
Congratulations also to Thar on his wonderful achievement in winning the Most Consistent award for his Hockey team.
Congratulations to Jack Di Pietro on coming Runner Up in the Best & Fairest for the U16 Horsham Hockey Club.
Mount Arapiles
Recently, our Outdoor Education students had a great day out in the sunshine at Mount Arapiles, participating in a bike ride and rock climbing throughout the day.
Thanks to the teachers, staff and Father Matt who accompanied them on their adventure!
Recently, our chess club kicked off with their first meeting in the Library at lunchtime! Any students who would like to get involved can see Mr Clusker. In the future, they are hoping to run a tournament with prizes. Get involved!
Recently our Year 11 VCE Modern History class had an exciting task! Students dove into the impact of Adolf Hitler's rule on regular German folks during their history lessons. With their research goggles on, they zoomed in on different aspects of Nazi rule to showcase how these elements shaped the daily lives of German civilians. They each put together an evidence board to piece together what they had researched.
Last week, our Year 8 cohort headed off on their Fears and Friendships camp at Roses Gap Recreation Centre. Students explored the outdoors and were involved in activities including ropes courses and canoeing over their three day stay.
Last week, our Unit 2 Outdoor Environmental Science students and our VCE Vocational Major and VPC students were involved in the Tree Planting and Nature Project at Burnt Creek organised by the Horsham Rural City Council, Horsham Landcare Network, Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN, Wimmera CMA and DEWLP. It was a great community service program for the students to contribute to.
Yesterday, Horsham's Youth Council was sworn in and we congratulate St Brigid's College Year 11 student, Tom Luke, for being selected as Mayor. Well done!
Congratulations to all students on the council, including Year 8 student, Liam Carracher.
We look forward to seeing the impact and positive outcomes you contribute to for young people in Horsham.
