NEWS FLASH -- National Week of Deaf People…

During the upcoming school holidays, the Deaf Community will be celebrating ‘National Week of Deaf People.’ This special week of celebrations runs from Mon 18th - Sun 24th September and acknowledges deaf language and culture through the 2023 theme of:

A world where Deaf people everywhere can sign anywhere!

It is an opportunity for Deaf people to celebrate their communities, language, culture and history; make the public aware of their local, state and national Deaf communities; and to recognise their achievements!

In lead up to the National Week of Deaf People, I am attaching a short video to tell you a little about the Deaf Flag:  https://deafaustralia.org.au/we-have-a-new-deaf-flag/

Sandhurst Division Basketball

Congratulations to our Boys and Girls basketball teams who represented the school at the Sandhurst Division Championships last week. Both teams were very competitive and displayed great teamwork throughout the day in what proved to be a particularly strong standard of competition.

The Girls team had a very successful day, winning 5 of their Round Robin games. Their only loss came against eventual Grand Finalist, St Therese’s by just 2 points. Great effort girls.

The Boys team also had an extremely successful day. They won 5 of their 7 games, with narrow loses to Strathfieldsaye PS (eventual tournament winners) and Victory CC. This was a fantastic effort given the standard of competition.

I would like to commend the players for their behaviour, sportsmanship and determination throughout the day. I would also like to thank the scorers, Michelle Maher for coaching the Boys team, and Mr Parkes for coaching the Girls team.

Sandhurst Division Athletics – Record Breakers!

Congratulations to our 11 Years Boys team who smashed the long standing 4 x 100m relay record at the Sandhurst Division Athletics Championships on Monday.

The team consisted of (see picture below) -  Hser Yu Say, Jed K, Archie C and Charlie F. The boys will now progress to the Regional Championships on the 9th of October. This event is the final step before the State Championships in November.

Congratulations also goes to our 10 Years Boys relay team who finished 3rd. This team consisted of Hugh P, Cooper B, Taj W and Isaac B. These boys will also progress to the Regional final. Fantastic effort boys.

We also had a number of outstanding individual performances on the day. A full rundown of all results from the Division Athletics will be included in our first newsletter back next term.
