Vale Andrew Jacobs

Mr Andrew Jacobs

1961 - 2023

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Mr Andrew Jacobs, one of our Instrumental Music teachers. We have been advised by his family that Mr Jacobs died in a car accident last week on Thursday evening.

His funeral is now being arranged and has been planned for 2:30pm, Thu 24 August, St Pauls Cathedral, Melbourne.

Mr Jacobs was an integral part of our school’s music community for nearly 30 years. He taught oboe, bassoon and double reed and conducted a variety of ensembles and bands during this time. His enthusiasm for music and dedication to our music program inspired so many of us. In particular, he enjoyed being part of the band for our College Production and he loved the music for this year's show 'The Little Mermaid'.

Mr Jacobs also taught at several other schools, where he will also be greatly missed.

On behalf of our school and our school community, I have conveyed our deepest sympathies to Mr Jacobs’ family at this difficult time. Our thoughts also go to the many students and staff who knew Mr Jacobs as a teacher or colleague.

You and your children may be affected by this news in many ways, and individual reactions may vary. Some people may become upset, some may connect this to their own experiences of grief, and others may not want to talk about it at all. Each of these are normal responses, and we encourage you to respond to any questions your child may have.

Wellbeing support is available to all students at school if required. If you feel your child would benefit from speaking with our Wellbeing team, please contact Guiseppe Relia (Head of Wellbeing).

The Department of Education’s Student Support Services team will also be at school, if required, next week to provide additional support, particularly to those who knew Mr Jacobs best.

Additional support is available through Kids Helpline (1800 551 800 or kidshelpline.com.au) or Parentline (13 22 89 or parentline.com.au) should you need it.

Please join me in remembering the positive impact Andrew had on our students, staff and music program.

If you or your children require any support at this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school. I apologise for not being permitted to share this news earlier.
