Principal Team Editorial
In last weeks newsletter, I mentioned that it was your last chance to get along to our College Production of “The Little Mermaid”, which was in its final week. Well, hopefully you took my advice and were in the audience to witness our talented students, on and offstage, put on another marvellous production.
The community really comes together for this important event on the school calendar. And whilst the process starts in earnest the previous year, the culmination involves staff, parents, family members, former students and volunteers. Thankfully it’s the time and effort that the dedicated team of staff and volunteers put into the show, that makes it such an exceptional experience.
The production team (staff, students and volunteers) consider themselves a family and you can see that in the way that they lookout for each other. Thankyou to the staff and volunteers that dedicate so much time, supporting the students to deliver something truly outstanding!
As one person commented: “I just wanted to congratulate you and your team on an OUTSTANDING school production!!! I was lucky enough to attend on Friday night and was blown away by the level of professionalism of the entire production. I believe I’ve seen in excess of 60 different School Productions in my 38 years of teaching and as a parent…this was the best I’ve seen.”
Finally, I want to acknowledge the effort of the band. The quality of the music in all our shows often gives the audience the impression that we are using pre-recorded music. The band is always a highlight in our shows, but with the sad passing of their colleague, friend, mentor and band mate, Andrew Jacobs, during the final week of performances, it would be understandable if they had made the decision that performing in those circumstances was not going to be possible. In the end, they decided to do it because they believed that that’s what Andrew would have wanted and, like always, because they want to support our students.
I will always remember the effort of the band for this year’s show, the triumph of performing during an immediate period of grief, the leadership and care of Leader of Performing Arts, Danny Van Bergen, and the support of the team for each other.
We look forward to paying tribute to Andrew Jacobs at our upcoming Gala Concert on Tue 12 Sept.
