Maths
Over the last few weeks, students have been looking at data and learning to collect and interpret data sets and information.
Students have been participating in a week-long project, collecting data both individually and as a class. They were tasked with recording successful basketball free throws out of 10 each day.
Students have really enjoyed this project and have produced some excellent results.
Humanities
This term we have been studying some of Colonial Australia’s defining moments in history and analysing why they are such important turning points. To conclude this unit, students will be given one of these defining moments to further explore and create a presentation for the class.
Camp
Our students are starting to get excited with our grade 5/6 camp not too far away. Howqua is a fun place, and we cannot wait to share in this special experience with the students. Below is a link to the camp booklet if needed.
Events:
Children's Book Week
Between the dates of 21st and 25th of August, students celebrated the joy of reading by participating in a range of Reading activities. They concluded with a Book Week parade, with students coming dressed as some of their favourite characters.
Excursion to the Wool Museum
To coincide with our studies in Humanities on the colonisation of Australia, the 4-6 students participated in an excursion to the Wool Museum in Geelong. There students were able to study maps of the local area during the early days of colonisation, as well make their own maps. They were also fortunate enough to take a tour of the museum and lean about the local wool industry.
Moriac Maths Amazing Race
The 3-6 students have recently participated in the Moriac Maths Amazing Race. Using the template from the show, students worked collaboratively in teams to solve a series of maths puzzles. The puzzles drew on the work we have been doing in our Maths Investigations. After successfully completing 25 stations, the final three teams needed to gather information from selected teachers and use it to crack a code with 120 different combinations. In the end, the three teams chose to work together to solve the code.
Winning students: Lincoln, Sully, Mackie, Kaitlyn, Delyla, Sebastian, Alice andMateo.
