Year 3/4
English:
To finish our unit on procedure writing, ¾’s created a class ‘how to book’. Students were able to show their understanding of procedure texts as well as individual interests, by selecting their own game/ recipe/ skill to put in the book. After writing their procedural text, students then demonstrated their instructions, and presented this to the class. Students did a wonderful job and really enjoyed finishing off their unit with a project of their choosing. This book will live in our classroom library for students to read and learn new skills from their classmates.
For the final 3 weeks of term 3, 3/4s have been reading the novel ‘Seahorse’ by Bruce Pascoe. Students have been really enjoying this novel. We have looked at the vocabulary, character profiles, the meaning within the story and comprehension strategies like summarising and visualising. Below is some writing from students. They were asked to select a character from the novel and write a paragraph about them:
Maths:
Within maths students have been getting hands on with their learning as we explore measurement. Students explored using a ruler correctly, and practised measuring things around the classroom. Students have also been looking at equivalent fractions and right angles. Below are some samples of their work:
Events:
Students had a wonderful time at book week, everyone looked great! Students also enjoyed watching the French puppet show:
Moriac Maths Amazing Race
The 3-6 students have recently participated in the Moriac Maths Amazing Race. Using the template from the show, students worked collaboratively in teams to solve a series of maths puzzles. The puzzles drew on the work we have been doing in our Maths Investigations. After successfully completing 25 stations, the final three teams needed to gather information from selected teachers and use it to crack a code with 120 different combinations. In the end, the three teams chose to work together to solve the code.
Winning students: Lincoln, Sully, Mackie, Kaitlyn, Delyla, Sebastian, Alice and Mateo.
