On Thursday afternoon, many of our Year 1 students and their families attended a Faith Night focussing on Baptism.
Baptism is the first Sacrament. It is a sacrament of initiation where people are welcomed into the Catholic Church.
When parents present their child for baptism, they are making a commitment to bring their child up as a loving member of our christian community by loving God and their neighbour.
By being baptised we become members of God's family and, as such, are called to live out the gospel values of love, forgiveness, compassion, hope and joy. By living this way we are fulfilling Jesus' new commandment to "love one another.... just as I have loved you" (John 13:34)
Father Ignatius went through the process of Baptism with some volunteer 'Parents and Godparents.' He explained the significance of the baptismal symbols of water, oil, the candle, a white garment and making promises.
Students then spent some time with their parents exploring these symbols.
Thank you to those parents who supported their children in their faith development to deepen their understanding of Baptism and to strengthen their understanding of God's love for us.
On Thursday 31st August (the last day of winter) the Faith and Social Justice Team have organised a Pyjama/Oodie Day to raise money for COTS (Christmas on the Streets), an organisation that supports the homeless. Students are invited to wear their PJs or Oodies on Thursday and bring along a gold coin donation for this social justice initiative.
