Father's Day Breakfast

Last Friday our P&C kindly held a BBQ Breakfast for all of our dads here at the school to celebrate Father's Day.  It was lovely to see so many come and spend time chatting and seeing what is happening in our classrooms this term.  Some dad's also were able to join in class activities.  We would like to send a huge thank you to Ben Cain for the incredible job he did sorting out our sports shed while he was here, it looks amazing!

BUSH FEST at NECOM

Yesterday our students travelled to NECOM in Armidale to take part in the Bush Fest Choral Day. We joined with students from other schools who are participating in the NECOM classroom music program in a mini choral festival led by inspirational children’s conductor Paul Jarman.  We have been practising two songs at school with NECOM music teacher Jess Suann for this event.

What's Happening in Lower Division?

Cardio Desk Drumming

Students enjoyed getting out the 'noodles' again this week to do some indoor PE.  We learnt about following directions, keeping the 'beat', Left & Right hands and positions.  We moved along to the tune of 3 popular songs and worked up quite a sweat!

Maths Activity

This term's unit about Fractions with Ms Hahn has meant lots of talk about 'fair' sharing and making equal parts.  This week we put it to the test by dividing up some huge blocks of chocolate and figuring out halves (Kinder), quarters (Year 1) and extending to eighths (Year 2). After experimenting and measuring with paper, we moved onto the real thing and managed to fairly share out 96 pieces of chocolate between 17 students....with a couple of 'spares' generously donated to the "Teacher's plate"!

LD have also been learning about arrays, multiplication and commutative properties. The Cookie Monster needed some help sorting out how many cookies he had. LD put their cookies on the tray in an array as we discussed rows, columns and how many altogether. We then got to choose how many cookies went on each of our trays, some trays were very full.

In History, LD have been learning about Celebrations across the world. This week we celebrated Chinese New Year by making plain pork dumplings and lanterns. LD enjoyed the process of learning how to make a dumpling by folding them or using a fork to close them. We made red paper lanterns and decorated them. Red symbolises good fortune, luck, celebration and prosperity. What things do you celebrate at home? LD would love to hear more about those celebrations.

In literacy, LD have been researching the importance of Bees, using commas, looking at different perspectives with Hey, Little Ant and high modality words. We wrote and published a letter to Mr Hunt persuading him to put in a Bee friendly garden with lots of flowers.
