Book Week

This week is Book Week! To celebrate Book Week, students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character tomorrow, Wednesday 23 August. This is a chance to celebrate the wonderful world created by stories, characters and settings. Year levels will complete a range of activities and engage in shared discussion around the special books in our lives. We will start the day with our parade on the basketball courts (weather permitting). This will start as close to 9:00am as possible. Parents are welcome to attend!

Year Prep – 2 Athletics

Next week on Wednesday 30 August, we will be holding our inaugural Year Prep -2 Athletics carnival. This will take place on our school oval. Students will participate in a variety of athletic events collecting house points as they move around the stations. These points will be collated and an overall winner will be announced at assembly the following Friday.  Students will receive a competitor’s ribbon on the day.

Parents are welcome to attend and we will be asking for parent helpers for the activities. Please note that to assist you must have competed the parent helpers course and have a current Working with Children Check (WWC). Parents who are not required to assist are asked to observe from behind the fence. Students are encouraged to wear sports clothes in their house colours.

Girls' Regional Netball Team

Congratulations to our Girls Netball team who competed at the Regional finals last week. Outstanding performances on the day ensured they made it to the final undefeated. Unfortunately they didn’t come away with a grand final win this time. However, they showed excellent sporting behaviour and have every reason to be proud of their efforts. Solway is certainly proud of you! Thank you to Steph Webster for coaching and Nik for supporting the girls on the day.

End of Term Events

Solway’s school calendar is once again filling up. It is wonderful to have some of our events happening again. This term still has several great events still to come including the Father’s Day stall, Year 3/4 camp, Year 1/2 dinner and Year 2 sleepover, Mulitcultural day and footy dress up day!

Updating details

From time-to-time things change.  We move house, change jobs and alter our living arrangements. If you have had any recent changes, could you please ensure you let Karen in the front office know. Recently we have had a few issues with trying to contact parents only to find that phone numbers have been disconnected or families are no longer at the address listed. Please keep us updated!

Term 3 Working Bee

We had a great turn out to our Saturday working Bee.  Many hands certainly made light work of the mulch, soft fall and sand as well as the weeding and tidying.  Thank you to Tom Chapman for his time and organisation and thanks to the Building and Environment sub committee for their planning.  A huge thanks to the families who gave up their time to come and help out. Our school is looking so much neater and more welcoming!

These changes will come into effect in the coming weeks, and I will update you if I receive any further clarification.
