Boarders of the Week Awards

Congratulations to our Boarders of the Week for Weeks 6 and 7. These students have demonstrated a willingness and commitment to be positive role models in the boarding community. Well done to the following students:

Juniors – Evangelina Barnes, Angelina Ketchell,  Bryle Guarin and Sangan Kirk.

Seniors – Kaityln Ross, Maliya Abraham, Connor Ryan and Yusuke Murata.

Free Weekend

It's a long weekend for Saints students as well as a free weekend for boarders. Today, September 1, was a student-free day as it was QCAA Confirmation Day and many teachers were involved in this program. Boarders who did not arrange leave for the weekend are involved in a camp on Lake Tinaroo. After a study session this morning, students and staff travelled to Genazzano and will return to the College on Sunday afternoon.

A reminder for those returning from leave on Sunday 3 September that residences will be open from 4pm. Dinner will be served between 6 and 6:30pm and everyone should be back by 8pm.  We ask families to contact the respective Heads of Residence if their children will be returning on Monday morning.

Sunday Night Mass

Next weekend will return to normal, as such full-time boarders are expected to remain in residence unless satisfactory leave requests have gone through our Heads of Residence. A reminder that Sunday night Mass starts at 7pm, and attendance is compulsory for all boarders.

Leave Requests

Recently there have been numerous late leave requests from boarders wishing to attend various events. This can place undue pressure on Heads of Residence, the Transport Coordinator and drivers. To ensure a streamlined process and maximum efficiency, below is a summary of the leave application process that we ask everyone to follow. This table is also in the Boarding Handbook.

End of Term 3 School Holidays

As the holidays approach, I remind families of the finishing dates for both colleges:

St Monica’s College – Final day, Thursday 14 September

St Augustine’s College – Final day, Friday 15 September

St Monica’s boarders are expected to attend the final day of school, therefore, the travel day home will be Friday 15 September. St Augustine's full-time boarders will also be permitted to travel home on that day.  Weekly boarders, however, must stay at school until the final bell of the term.

A reminder to families that a Leave Request form must be submitted to the College Principal if there's a valid reason for a student to finish the term earlier than Friday 15 September. St Augustine’s full-time boarders are not required to submit this form if they are travelling home on that Friday.

Flight Itineraries

Families, so that we can coordinate transport arrangements please send flight details ASAP for the end of Term 3 and the start of Term 4 to respective Heads of Residence. Staff start holidays on 16 September, therefore, return travel information must reach us before the term ends.

Weekend Outings

The boarding community has enjoyed two beautiful weekend outings of late to the Babinda Boulders and Palm Cove. Both activities were highly enjoyable, and the students have made the most of their outings.
