Digital Technology

Foundation

Foundations students have been practising their coding skills through the use of the online Bee-bot simulator.

This has been a great tool to use to encourage students to think about how they can follow, describe and represent a sequence of steps and decisions (algorithms) needed to solve simple problems.

Your child might enjoy showing their coding skills by visiting the bee-bots and exploring the different mats at home together.

Grade 1/2

Grade 1/2 students have also been exploring algorithms with a particular focus on instructions needing to be clear and sequential.

Lego and Lego instructions have been happily used to practise and model the use of clear and sequential instructions.

Students were required to work together and follow the instructions to create their Lego creation.

We realised very early that it is difficult to be clear and accurate with our instructions if we cannot see the pictures.

Using everything they have learnt from the Lego instructions Grade 1/2  students are now creating their own set of instructions using Google Slides to demonstrate how to make a Playdough animal.

Grade 3-6

The Grades 3 to 6 have now finished their time with the Spheros.

The coding skills developed over the last six weeks have been phenomenal.

We will continue our coding journey in term four.

Over the final weeks of term three all students in grades three to six have been invited to create and put forward an artwork, video or photography that depicts a persuasive message of “Inspiring Recycling Action.”

This is an opportunity for all students to develop a deeper understanding of how and why our digital world needs to recycle e-waste.

Mobile Muster is an Australian organisation that recycles mobile phones and digital devices.

To find out more about this competition please visit the following website:

I am also encouraging all students to have a look in their homes, with permission from their parents, to bring in any old and unused devices so that we can use them in our competition creations before using our new collection box to recycle these devices.

Entering the competition is optional and parental permission is required prior to submitting entries.
