P.A.R.T.Y Program

This week the Year 12s had a presentation on road trauma and the process followed by the emergency and medical services after a road incident.  The take-home message was that road trauma results from the natural risk-taking of youth, inattention, lack of seat belts and substance use. A further message was that friends of victims need to be honest with the emergency and medical services about any substances consumed to assist with the medical response. I would ask that families use the presentation as a prompt to have discussions with their child about keeping themselves and their friends safe on the road.

Year 12 Survey

My thanks to the Year 12 families who completed our survey. Overall, the views of the 31 families were positive and reinforced that for the most part, we are on the right track in providing a high-quality learning and living environment for our students. The overall average positive response across all questions was 86%, which I rate as high.

Positive responses are calculated as the number of agree and strongly agree responses compared to neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. One area we continue not to perform as well as other areas is related to the usefulness and timeliness of information to parents on their child’s performance. We continue to look for ways to improve this area and I welcome any suggestions from our families.

As usual, our front office team received high praise with 100% positive responses (strongly agree and agree) across all survey questions.  Typical of the comments were “requests over the phone are always dealt with efficiently and nothing is too much trouble. A solution can be found for any inquiry” and “always a prompt response and my queries answered with a smile!”. Well done to our front office and admin team who we know always do a fantastic job.

Year 10 Survey

Next term we will be surveying our Year 10 families and students.

The end of Year 12

We are very much at the business end of our Year 12s schooling career and our goal is to have them finish on a positive note with as high-level qualifications as possible. Staff will be working to achieve this goal and we expect students to maintain focus right to the end. Families are asked to reinforce with their children the need for them to maintain high standards of behaviour and application.

Curtin Scholarships

I recently received information from Curtin University about two scholarships they are offering to Year 12 students. Please make contact with me if you are interested.

Curtin Principal’s Regional Starter Scholarship

This scholarship has been developed to encourage and support students from a West Australian regional high school to commence an undergraduate degree at Curtin University. Each West Australian regional high school principal can nominate two students for this award, worth $1500 to the successful recipients.

Have a great weekend.
