Welcome to Ivanhoe Primary School,
Over the last two to three years we have been challenged in ways that we had never expected. Our personal, social and global resilience have all been put to the test. Coming back to school has seen many children having to relearn how to play, and how to be fair.
The mental game is as important as the physical one. Resilience, Persistence and Confidence are more important than ever before, and a lack of in-person social interactions has eroded these values for some children. Help us refocus the children on what to enjoy about play: friends, fun and teamwork.
It is acceptable to tackle in professional and club sport and it’s part of the game. Umpires and coaches control the game to try to make sure games are fair and also to minimise injuries. The players know the rules and if they don’t follow them they don’t get to play.
We don’t allow tackling at school because: yard duty teachers are not umpires, there are too many students on the oval and soccer pitch to manage and when people collide someone gets hurt.
A Department of Education requirement is that a head knock is an immediate call to a parent and more than likely a trip home or to the doctor or worse - the hospital.
If your child plays club sport they might find the NO TACKLING rule frustrating. However, by focussing their energies on avoiding collisions their game skills will improve. Being encouraged to participate safely will improve teamwork.
A consequence for anyone who tackles at school will be spending time off the playground.
Hello IPS community to celebrate book week the canteen will give every student who places an order on Thursday 24th of August a free apple cup with every order .

As we near the Night of Music we would like to give our musicians opportunities to perform in front of an audience. Corelli strings will be playing at this Mondays assembly on the 21st of August and the Orchestra the week after on the 28th of August.
Parents are welcome to stand at the back of the assembly.
I'm sure there will be many disappointed people today. I think it's a good time to remember that winning would have been great, but the impact of this world cup is the bigger picture. Not just for Australia - but women and girls all over the world. Our young people may be feeling defeated today, and they deserve space to express that, but they can also take comfort in what this means for the future of women in sport. We must take all the energy we put into supporting our country and use it to encourage positive action to support the investment and support of women's sport moving forward.
I hope that we can all support our young people at IPS to shift their disappointment into action for their future. Credit: Ms Fray (4F)
Students have been enjoying Life Ed sessions with Healthy Harold the giraffe mascot. Last Monday the 14th of August we held a short whole school picnic on the soccer pitch where Harold the giraffe and a Life Ed facilitator joined us, and Harold with the help of a facilitator spoke to everyone and taught the students some cool dance moves.
Life Ed offers a range of age-appropriate primary school modules designed to inspire and empower students, providing knowledge, skills and strategies around topics of physical health, safety and social and emotional wellbeing, all through interactive learning experiences.
Recently Junior School Council were asked to meet with their classes to generate some ideas for spending money raised by the upcoming school fair and other fundraising activities.

As proud members of the Ivanhoe Primary School community, we are excited to announce that the bi-annual school fair is just around the corner! To make this year's event an even greater success, we are seeking your generous support.
One of the most cherished highlights of the fair is the Silent Auction, where we offer a diverse array of items and experiences for bidding, all made possible through the kind contributions of individuals like yourself.
We kindly request your assistance in spreading the word about the Silent Auction donation opportunity among your extended network of family and friends. In your child’s school bag, you will find the Silent Auction Donation Letter, which outlines the process and provides further details. We encourage you to share this letter with your loved ones, friends, and colleagues, inviting them to contribute goods, services or donations where possible.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to our school community!
Another wonderful community event from our fabulous PFA. This was a great night out, where we had plenty of fun and laughter. The Master of Ceremonies was a hit, and so was the raffle. Full credit to Cat Atkinson for organising the donation of all the raffle prizes.
(See insert - thank you sponsors). Thank you to Andrea and the PFA for helping set up and pack away. The West Ivanhoe Football club for the venue and the wonderful service.
The table themes were super creative and the competition fierce. Hope to see you all again next year.
Trivia Night is a social event not designed to make a lot of money, but what it does generate enables the PFA to manage more events. This year Trivia Night raised $1,596.
It is time for Dads and Special Men to enjoy our annual IPS Father’s Day breakfast!
Come along to the school hall on Thursday 31st Aug between 7:30am - 8:30am, breakfast orders will be available through My School Connect (same as placing a lunch order and must be placed before Friday August 25th to give us time to get supplies and prepare).
We’ll also have a coffee van to buy a barista brew if you need it.
Please note:
Don’t worry, Mums don’t have to be left out!
We need some Mums to help on the day, show the Dads you care and come along to help us setup the tables and do some serving. No cooks needed, our wonderful Annette in the canteen is taking care of all that. If you can come along between 6:30am and 9am, please contact Veron Teo – veron.listx@gmail.com (0401976755).
If you’re having problems with placing your order, please contact Annette in the canteen on 0413 047 049 (but please wait until you see the menu is available).
Thanks – and see you there!
Please volunteer as your time to help us make it a fantastic fair! Many hands make light work! Contact our PFA Coordinator, Andrea Thomas on 0431 953 720.
Stall donation items are being sought for the follow stalls:
Rough play - not keeping hands and feet to yourselves - calling people names and teasing - will result in time out with a teacher and reduced playtime in the school yard. This is about developing “Respect” and learning to “Get Along” with one another.
Our goal is to encourage everyone to make good choices. The last thing any of us want are long conversations reminding students to do the “right thing”. No one enjoys having them, and they can usually be avoided by encouraging children to remember to treat other people how they would like to be treated themselves.
I hope you'll join us at our next events, including: Father's Day Breakfast, a Working Bee and our IPS Fair. Thank you for your support.
Have a great week.
