Year 4 News

From Elly B, Year 4 teacher
We have had a productive and exciting return to school in Term Three so far with our first lessons in the Garden with Teacher Tess. We are looking forward to seeing how the garden changes as Spring approaches in a few weeks.
We have also started our Literature Circle activities. This involves groups of 4-6 students reading the same chapter books and meeting each week to summarise, discuss their connections, interesting words and questions they may have.
Some of the books we are reading in 4E are:
Girl Underground
Fozia And The Quest Of Prince Zal
The London Eye Mystery
Here are some of the discussions students have had….

I selected this sentence, ‘All she could see on the floor was grey oozing mud’, because of the word ‘oozing’ as I needed to look this word up in the dictionary.
Elliott asked his group to consider how the word ‘nai’ by the main character throughout the book, Fozia And The Quest Of Prince Zal.
Ewan found the words, cantilevered, borough and oesophagus in The London Eye Mystery. This led to plenty of discussion!
Finally, we have been writing a variety of descriptive pieces on the Book Week theme of Adventure. While all will be revealed in Week Five, here is a snippet of our impressive work.

The island surfed across the glistening sea as sea glass clinked on the deserted shore. I was mesmerised as I gazed at the painted sky of fiery red and blazing pink. Echoes fill the soundless caves of crystals that have never been discovered. The stars began to rise as the moonlight reflected on the never-ending water. Timeless sand slipped through my fingertips as shadows danced along the summer sky. My nose twitched at the smell of tropical flowers and decaying roses. Feathers floated through the tangled vines as Time stood still in front of me, my mind shifted when I realised that I was standing on a floating paradise.
