Year One Assembly Highlights

Last Friday, the Year One cohort held its first assembly of Term Three, reconnecting with families to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students. Eve and Aradhya proudly led and organised the assembly, showing growing confidence and leadership.

Students from 1A delivered a respectful Acknowledgement of Country, reflecting the thoughtful work we’ve done during morning circles and our ongoing respect for, and connection to, First Nations peoples.

We also congratulated our RISE Award recipients, who consistently demonstrate our school values and inspire their peers to do the same.

To finish, an impressive drumming performance by 1D students showcased their learning in Performing Arts, sharing their progress and achievements with the school community.

Literacy

Phonics Plus

Students have been reading and spelling both one-syllable and multisyllabic words featuring the grapheme–phoneme correspondences (GPCs) for the ‘ar’ and ‘or’ sounds.

They also revisited previously introduced suffixes and the concept of compound words. Students continued to build their accuracy, fluency, and comprehension through reading passages and writing dictated sentences.

Reading and Writing

The Pig the Pug series and The Sweetest Fig have been highlights of our reading and writing lessons over the past few weeks. Students engaged in shared reading and analysed each part of the stories in detail. They practised text innovation and responded to reading using complete sentences, applying their knowledge of different sentence types.

Numeracy

Students have been enhancing their mental computation skills by applying their place value knowledge and integrating it with concepts such as compatible numbers, part-part-whole relationships, and the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. This practice expands their problem-solving capacity and lays a solid foundation for more complex mathematical learning.

Alongside these topics, students continue to develop their number sense and practise their fluency with basic addition and subtraction facts.

House Spirit Week

Beyond the engaging classroom learning, Year One students came together as a cohort to connect with peers from other classes. They strengthened teamwork skills, demonstrated house spirit and school values, and enjoyed a well-planned scavenger hunt organised by the Year Six School Leaders. Students had a fantastic time meeting and collaborating with peers from across the year level.
