Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the middle of Term 3 already. For a short term, we have managed to squeeze lots of learning and extra-curricular events into the term already – with many more exciting events to come. Check out the rest of this newsletter to see what has been happening around the school over the last couple of weeks, and make sure you head back to the ‘Important Dates’ page to see our upcoming events taking place across the school.

Professional Practice Day – Friday 22nd August – No Students Required at School

As you may be aware the Department of Education has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated Professional Practice Day on the same day for all staff. This is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day.

As previously shared, NMPS has scheduled our Professional Practice Day for Friday 22nd August. Students will not be required to attend school on this day.

Biz-E-Kidz will provide a service for students if required. Bookings can be made through SmartCentral.

Staffing update

This week we farewell Jacqueline Berkeley and Ferhan Dogan (1D class teachers). We thank Jacqueline and Ferhan for their time at NMPS and wish them all the best for their future endeavours.

While we undertake the recruitment process to find a replacement teacher, we welcome back Gen Kelly who will be working in 1D as a Casual Relief Teacher.

2025 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 18 August to Friday 19 September 2025.

All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school directly for survey guides in your language. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

2026 Student Numbers

It's that time of year when the leadership team begin working through 2026 planning, class structures and recruitment processes.

As we begin the planning process for 2026, we would appreciate parents notifying the school if your child/ren will not be returning to North Melbourne Primary School in 2026, as soon as possible.
