Year 5 News

From Matilda B, Year 5 teacher
House Spirit with House
On Wednesday of Week 3, we eagerly headed out to the Grassketball Court to meet the House Captains to play ‘Robbery’. The House Captains explained the rules of how to play and we were just getting started when the clouds came over and the rain came down! We have rescheduled our session for this week. We look forward to having an outside game with our cohort and win some house spirit points for our house.
Athletics Day
On Friday of Week 3, the Year 5s and 6s participated in a round robin athletics carnival competition, representing our houses. The specialist teachers ran tunnel ball, sprints, long jump, discus, shotput, and hurdles (thank you specialists!). We were paired up with another Year 6 class and all came dressed in as much of our house colour as we could. It was a great day celebrating house pride and having a go at lots of great activities.
Extreme Weather at IMAX
On Monday 6th August, the Year 5s took a trip up to Carlton Gardens to the largest screen in the world IMAX! It is 32 metres wide and 23 metres high, imagine that screen at your house. We watched the movie ‘Extreme Weather’ where we learnt all about three big natural disasters that happen in our world. Melting Glaciers, tornadoes and bush fires. It was fascinating, and afterwards we enjoyed a nice lunch in the park.
