Selamat Dirgahayu Indonesia – Happy 80th Independence Day!
Last Sunday, our vibrant neighbour Indonesia celebrated its 80th year of independence with parades, music, and community festivities across the archipelago. Here at SJV, we’re embracing the spirit of celebration by hosting our very own SJV Indonesian Day in October (Term 4)—a joyful learning showcase where students will immerse themselves in student-led Indonesian activities, highlighting their language skills, creativity, and enthusiasm. More details will be shared closer to the date, so watch this space!
In the meantime, here’s what our students have been exploring in Indonesian this term:
Foundation: World of Animals
Our Foundation learners are discovering the wonderful world of animals. Through songs, and hands-on craft, they’re building vocabulary & cultural awareness in joyful, creative ways.
Grade 1-2: Nature Explorers
Students are investigating the natural environments of Australia and Indonesia, with a special focus on plants, trees, and volcanoes.
Grade 3-4: Guardians of the Jungle
This term, the spotlight is on Orangutans and their rainforest habitat. Students are exploring conservation themes, Indonesian geography, and language through collaborative projects.
Grade 5-6: Sepak Takraw
Our senior students have been introduced to Sepak Takraw, a dynamic sport popular across Southeast Asia that combines soccer-style kicks with volleyball-like gameplay. They’ve enjoyed trying out basic moves and learning about the cultural significance of the game—all while practising Indonesian language in a fun, active setting.
Terima kasih dan sampai jumpa!
