From the Year 3 Classroom

Reading
On Friday we were fortunate enough to have a special visitor in our school, Real Pigeons author- Andrew McDonald. Andrew spoke to us about his passion from writing that started as a young primary school student and how everyday things to fuel his imagination, even sticks and pigeons!
Today we were lucky to have a webinar with Andy Griffiths from State Library Victoria who discussed his weird and wonderful ways of how he constructs stories, including his very popular Treehouse series.
Week 5 marks the end our class text ‘The Iron man’. We are very excited to see how the end of the story plays out! Skills we have been focussing on is inferring what the author is trying to say and being able to provide evidence why we think that. It has been pleasing to see a huge increase in home reading efforts this term- well done to all our Grade 3 readers, keep up the fantastic work! Asking clarifying questions to your child whilst they read at home can be beneficial to ensure they are understanding what they are reading and that they are reading a ‘good fit’ book.
Next week we begin a new class novel- a change of pace with an old classic, Charlotte's Web. We can’t wait to see all our students' dress up next Friday 29th August for our annual Book Week parade.
Writing
Students have been busily researching and gathering lots of facts about an animal for their Information Report. They are now at the stage of transferring their notes into paragraphs before beginning to publish their report on PowerPoint. It has been wonderful to hear many interesting facts students have gathered whilst completing this research project and we look forward to seeing the final results of their intensive work.

RE
We will finish up our Source of Life unit on Parables this week after looking deeply at parables Jesus told. We will commence the unit Reaching Out & Serving Others next week. This unit will focus on the concept of loving service and relate it to mission, based on Jesus’ example. Students will explore ways in which Christians serve other people, particularly those overseas.
Inquiry
As we progress through our History Unit, we are investigating early exploration, and particularly the journey of Captain Cook. We are learning about first contact with our Indigenous First Nation’s People and the reasons for European settlement.
Maths
The last two weeks, students are sharpening their skills in reading analog clocks—moving from quarter-hour to minute-by-minute accuracy. They're learning to connect analog and digital time, using real clocks to explore how hours and minutes work together.
Multiplication Masters
Well done to all students who are working hard on learning their times tables. A BIG ‘Congratulations’ to the following students who have passed all their times tables from 2x through to 12x.
