From the Year 6 Classroom

Hello once again,

The term is quickly passing us by, with lots going on the Yr 6 space.

Literacy

In Literacy, students are in the final pages of their novel study on ‘Once’ by Morris Gleitzman. This powerful and engaging story prompted lots of deep thinking and discussion. The students developed the important skill of note-taking and completed their own information report on Poland. We are about to begin our new novel study ‘Can you see me?’ by Libby Scott and Rebecca Wescott, which explores the life of a 11-year old girl with autism who is navigating the landscape of starting high school.

Maths

In Maths, we’ve just completed the unit on Angles. The students learnt how to identify, measure, and classify angles, as well as creating shapes using angles.

We now begin our next unit on ‘Decimals’, consolidating our earlier learning on and deepening our knowledge of multiplying and dividing whole numbers and fractions.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we’ve launched our new unit on the systems of government in Australia. We’re exploring how our government works, the roles of different branches, and the importance of democratic values.

We’d like to wish the very best of luck to the students heading to Bundoora tomorrow to compete in the AFL 9’s State Finals – we are so proud of your achievements already!

Don’t forget – Book Week is just around the corner! Our much-anticipated Book Week Parade will take place on Friday, 29th August.

Thank you for your ongoing support – we look forward to another great fortnight ahead!

It was an inspiring experience that left everyone excited about reading and writing!

We’re so proud of the way our Year 6 students continue to show leadership and initiative across all areas of school life. It’s shaping up to be another great term!
