Foundation/Grade 1

RRRR/TRP

This week we acknowledged National Week Against Bullying. Monday we began the week with a Kids Helpline session where the educator taught the students what bullying is. The students worked together to describe what bullying is; “Bullying is when someone keeps being mean to you, doing the same thing lots of times”.

We also discussed how we can be kind to others. The students created kindness flowers, sharing 5 different ways they could be kind to others.

Grade 2

Math

The Grade 2's have been learning to use arrays and skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s to find totals by explaining their connection, creating arrays with objects, and showing skip counting verbally and in writing. This week we were able to utilise the sunshine and our school environment during math.  Each student collected a small amount of ‘nature’ items from outside to create an array that is in groups of 2.

 Junior PE

PE this term has started off with a bang as our Prep, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students develop their basic athletics skills, including sprinting, distance running, vortex throw, bean bag toss, hurdles, soft ball throw, and long jump. Over the past few weeks, students have rotated through these events, building confidence, coordination, and a love for physical activity. Towards the end of the term, students will take part in a fun and inclusive Mini Athletics/Tabloid Sports Carnival designed especially for Prep–2 students. This will be a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase their skills in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Keep an ear out for when we release the date as it will be an invite for all parents to come and enjoy the day.

Grade 3/4

Bendigo Discovery Centre Excursion

What an exciting day our Grade 3 and 4 students had at the Discovery Centre in Bendigo. From hands-on science workshops to exploring fascinating exhibits, the experience was packed with fun and learning. A highlight for many was the thrilling vertical slide and the captivating planetarium show. Students were full of curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day! We’re proud of how collaborative and responsible students were during the excursion. It was a wonderful day of discovery and teamwork!

Physical Education

It’s been a busy but enjoyable start to the term in PE! In preparation for the annual Athletics Carnival at Kyabram P-12 today, students have been refining their skills across a range of events. Over the past few weeks, PE sessions have focused on sprints (often as part of the warm up), discus, shot put, hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. The enthusiasm shown by students during practice has been fantastic, and they have been eager to showcase their skills.

Any students who are interested in competing in the 800m and/or High Jump can do so on Monday 18th August at Kyabram P-12. Events will begin at 11.40am. Parents will need to arrange transport for their child on this day.

Grade 5/6

Literacy

Our senior students have been captivated by the novel Tom Appleby – Convict Boy. Using factual information from the story, they have begun writing their own information reports. Throughout this unit, students have been learning how to take notes, summarise key ideas, and rephrase information in their own words. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm for the novel and the effort they are putting into their writing.

Mathematics

Our Grade 6 students have been working on fractions, focusing on finding common denominators, simplifying fractions, and adding and subtracting fractions with both like and unlike denominators. This unit has been highly engaging, with students discovering how important it is to understand multiplication tables and factors to support their learning. It’s been fantastic to see them applying these skills with growing confidence.

Religion

In Religion, students have been exploring sacred stories from both the Old and New Testaments. They have been learning how scripture helps us understand God’s teachings on how we should treat one another and how He calls us to live like Him. This unit has also included an exploration of the Psalms, using scripture to reflect on their meaning and message. The activities have been interactive and engaging, encouraging students to connect these teachings to their own lives.

Inquiry

This term in Inquiry, students have been exploring the world of inventions and the remarkable people whose ideas have shaped and improved our lives. They are learning about influential inventors such as Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and Galileo Galilei, and how their creations have changed the way we live. Students are also investigating the solar system, light, and other significant scientific discoveries, sparking curiosity and inspiring creative thinking about the future of innovation.
