Feast of the Assumption

The angel said to Mary, “Do not be afraid. God has chosen you. You will have a baby, and you will name him Jesus.”  Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let it happen just as you have said.”

Today we hear about a very special moment in Mary’s life. An angel came to Mary with amazing news — she was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus.

At first, Mary might have felt surprised or even a little bit scared. The angel told her, “Do not be afraid,” and explained God’s plan. Mary listened carefully, trusted God, and said “yes.”

Mary’s “yes” wasn’t just for that one moment. She kept saying “yes” to God every day of her life — by loving others, by being kind, and by staying close to Jesus.

We can learn from Mary. Even when we feel unsure or nervous, we can still trust God. We can say “yes” to Him in small ways — by helping a friend, listening to our parents and teachers, and showing kindness to everyone.

Like Mary, we can make our hearts ready for God’s plans and trust that He will always be with us.

For our Church and all God’s people: that we may be faithful to God’s way and like Mary be a sign of God’s grace and love in our world. For all who seek to believe in God: that we may be open to the wonders and marvels that God does in our own lives and like Mary grow to say “Yes” to God’s way. For all who are suffering: the poor, the sick, the needy and all who need love and healing in their lives. May God’s love and mercy fill them with hope. For our community and our loved ones: that we, like Mary, may take God’s Word into our hearts and grow more deeply in faith and love. For all who died, especially our relatives and friends: may they rest in peace in the company of Mary and all God’s Saints. Amen.
