Drifter the Lifter
It was an adventure day on Friday, walking down to the station to see the biggest crane we've ever seen! Last term we were invited to name this crane. Paige from Year 5 was the lucky winner.
English
Our focus for this term is:
Did you know, that 'c' says /s/ when c is followed by 'i,' 'e' or 'y'?
Storybook Lessons
To begin the term, we explored the stories Migaloo - The White Whale by Mark Wilson and Dingo by Claire Saxby.
These books are written in the style of a narrative but contain so many facts about whales/ dingoes. The students investigated the difference between facts and opinion
Our beautiful whales were created using the Art Hub for Kids platform.
Take home books
Reading at home continues to be an important part of the Year 1 curriculum. We are missing some of the decodable texts. Could you please have a look for any stray texts and return them to the classroom. Each week students are expected to read for at least 10 minutes a day, at least 4 nights a week. Take home books are changed weekly, usually on a Monday. Students are encouraged to pack their reading satchel every day. There are always opportunities during the week for the teachers to fit in an extra read.
Mathematics
Below is an overview of the topics we will be covering in Term 4 in Mathematics.
We commenced this term learning about the fundamentals of graphing. One of our favourite activities was investigating the colour of cars that travelled down Anderson Street.
In Location we followed instruction to locate objects.
We located landmarks on a map.
Our next topic is time, recalling the days of the week and the months of the year. Also, identifying and telling the time on an analogue clock.
Religion
Our topics for Term 4 are: Our Call to Mission and Advent - Preparing for Advent. We have been investigating how God loves us and how we celebrate God's love and be like Jesus.
Inquiry
Our first unit has a history focus. One of our tasks was to look at the image below.
We put our thinking hats on and discussed the following questions.
