Minasan Konnichiwa! (Hello everyone.)

Welcome to Term 4 Japanese!

Japanese Day

We had a Japanese Day on October 30th. Students enjoyed 5 different activities in multi-age groups to celebrate Japanese language and culture as the whole school. It was a pleasant day with a lot of smiling faces, and a great opportunity to see senior students’ caring manners towards junior students. Well done all!

Year 3-6

Students have finished the unit “Clothes”. They learnt new words and cultural facts, played games to reinforce the vocabulary and sentences, and completed an assessment to recall their knowledge.

We are currently learning about “Hobbies”. Students are practicing how to address theirs and family member’s hobbies in Japanese.

Year 1&2

Students continued to practice Banzai Yasai (Hooray Vegetables) and practiced indicating likes and dislikes. Did you know that the most popular vegetables in both Year 1 and 2 classes are carrots and potatoes? (We have discovered this by speaking in Japanese!) Students have also been learning/practicing about classroom items such as rubber, pencil, scissors, book, pen, glue, ruler, notebook and pencil case. We used  ELLA (Early Learning Language Australia) program’s online games to reinforce these words and sentences.

Students are currently learning about “Hobbies”. We practiced indicating likes and dislikes using some words such as sports, music, gaming and drawing.

They are currently learning about some “Hobby” words such as sports and music. They used ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) online games to reinforce the vocabulary.

We are almost at the end of reading all 46 Hiragana (Japanese alphabet)! Students are learning quickly!
