Homework Policy

StMM’s Homework Policy

Last Wednesday, we began the exciting process of developing a new Homework Policy for St Margaret Mary’s. Parents joined us for a collaborative discussion, sharing ideas, experiences, and thoughtful suggestions.

Our conversations covered a range of topics, including how much time students should spend on homework each night, the types of activities they most enjoy, and the content that engages them the most – and why. Parents also shared valuable insights into what they feel works well and what could be improved.

Throughout the three sessions, a strong consensus emerged: homework is not just about practising skills, but about building responsibility and independence. It also provides parents with a valuable opportunity to see what their children are learning in class and to be involved in their learning journey.

In the coming weeks, we will share updates on the Homework Policy and provide parents with further opportunities to give feedback. We will also be seeking input and ideas from students in the upper grades, helping us shape an approach to homework that includes everyone’s perspective.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important conversation – your voices are helping to shape a policy that will benefit our whole school community.
